I've been struggling to figure out what line of attack will be used to try to take down Trump at tomorrow night's debate, and I think that they will all line up (other than Cruz, of course) trying to make the case that Trump is a liberal, based on both his past positions and some of his recent statements. The goal here, of course, is to try to instill doubts among us Trump supporters, as they understand the longer Trump stays on top, the harder it is going to be to topple him - either by swaying opinion, or rigging the convention. They likely have figured out that they can't goad him real-time into making a fool of himself in a debate format as he controlled himself well in the first debate - it was only outside of that debate that Trump has launched his real attacks that have gotten him all of the attention, so they wont waste their time trying to goad him again.
Furthermore, although it took 3 months of focus groups by Frank Luntz, I think word is finally trickling in to the GOP bosses that Americans are really fed up with Illegals and that attacking Trump from the left on Immigration only works to his advantage, and that trying to match him on Immigration, well, the other candidates simply aren't up to it (i.e., Scott Walker seeing the need to build a wall only on the Canadian border and taking 3 positions one Immigration issue in one week; Bush saying that Anchor Babies only come from China, etc.), or they just can't help lapsing back to their default positions of Open Borders (Walker secretly promising Big Money to support Amnesty, Carson now coming out for Amnesty and using Democrat talking points, Rubio unable to pull himself away from the Senate Amnesty Disaster that he helped orchestrate, etc).
So about all that is left is trying to attack Trump from the right on other issues and trip him up there, with the hope of getting a legendary Rick Perry type comment of people "having no heart" (when it comes to illegal immigration), or a Bush comment like illegal immigration is "an act of love". They'll try to goad him into saying something like that regarding something recent, like the gay marriage ruling from the Court, the Kentucky Court Clerk situation, etc. It seems to be one of the only hopes left for them, and hopefully Trump is ready for that.
I suspect that their long-term plan is the following: As we (hopefully, in their eyes) move away from Trump, they (the GOP bosses) will permit any of the other candidates to take his place for a period of time (even Cruz, for that matter). Right now, since Carson is up, they're trying to get us to move to him - as you can tell by all of the puff pieces coming out about Carson. But after a while, a few weeks, once they're sure they've severed our bond with Trump, Karl Rove will deploy his whiteboard on Meet the Press and that will be the end of Carson. Carson will have served his purpose.
After that, we're left with Rubio, Bush, and Walker, with Biden coasting to another easy Democrat victory. But the GOP bosses will still be THRILLED - they prevented Trump, a bull in a china shop to them, from totally decimating their scam, and they will retain their incomes and plush offices for another 4 years. Sure a GOP victory would be nice, but a Trump defeat is all that matters to them now.
Heres the joke on the GOP. Nobody cares.
Not only that, the GOPe is liberal-light so it would be a bit hypocritical but that won’t stop them I suspect.
The purists already have determined Trump is too liberal and the rest of us are willing to take a chance on him if we can’t get Cruz. Night/day? Sure, but beats the hell out of anyone else, IMHO.
Yes on Immigration, Taxes and health care he has published positions. They are on his campaign webpage please read them there
‘He’s just a multi-billionaire’
It becomes increasingly apparent that class envy is driving much of the more strident anti-Trump invective.
‘What makes you trust that he means even that?’
Bc he didn’t go to the wide open, foreign-invader-gushing border with Beck and hand out teddy bears and soccer balls?
“Any how is he planning on doing these things? Any details, or just promises?”
I always like Ronald Reagan, and I watched him carefully during his campaign. He pushed three themes: lower taxes, cut spending, rebuild military. Those things, evidently, are self-defining, since he never got into the weeds on how he would do it. I trusted that he would do what he pledged. When he was elected, he sat about immediately to do just that.
When Trump says he will build a wall, and since 700 miles of it has already been approved by Congress, do you really think you need to see a blueprint and hear bidding on it?
When Trump says he will deport illegal aliens, all he has to do is activate the strategy that Eisenhower successfully used to deport over a million illegals in the fifties, and that the media carefully hides from the American people.
When he says, like Reagan, that he will rebuild the military, do you really need to hear the actual defense appropriations that will be necessary to move through Congress?
When he says he will re-negotiate trade deals that are dull and dry as mold dust, and would bore the living hell out of the average person, do you really believe he will get neck deep in details concerning that. A campaign event is not the time to try to develop details. He already has submitted those details in his book that came out last month, if you really thirst for details.
Incidentally, Trump has been more detailed than any of the other candidates; it’s just that nobody complains about them.
Trump published a book in 2011, Time to get Tough, that details his views. They are all conservative. Besides siding with BLM re Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, what has Carson done?
Personally I am for Cruz. However, Trump is adding a zeal to the Republican election that would be missing otherwise. They may be soundbites but he sounds conservative. What politician doesn’t robotically repeat every stump speech topic every time they are given the chance? So suddenly they GOP is worried that Trump is not conservative? Since when did that bother them? They better stop attacking the man who is gathering such large crowds. It is a concern but seriously, he would be as good or better than Hillary, Sanders, Biden or Jeb, Christie, etc. etc. etc.!
It may not be ‘liberal’ v ‘conservative’ in 2016. It may just be ‘grandOLDcrap’ v ‘DisgustedWithgOp’.
I know who wins that battle. Every. Single. Day.
Well Said!!!!
Cruz and Palin can handle Trump then I can handle Trump.
You are right!
He shouldnt show up....
But he will!
Because hes determined.....and he will fight them.....and thats why we love him!
Personally I think Trump would rather fight something than have it roll over for him. I think he gets a lot of energy from the skirmishes.
Hate to tell ya, Ben Carson hasn’t decided what all his views are yet.
I predict he will be a gun grabber type.
The other side likes to talk detail. Remember that “rally” Bush had with all the sleeping going on? people really don’t want all the detail. They want a vision they support and a person who they believe will execute that vision.
We are hiring a LEADER, not a wonk.
“We are hiring a LEADER, not a wonk.”
Well stated.
This is exactly what the left and the media does. They feminized men to go with their FEELINGS ... and with that feely thinking, there are few men who can use their God given brains to be practical, think things through to a viable solution, and DO IT.
The muzzies and Mexicans and Gang Bangers I would high tail out of town.
Rubio. He was bought for $3.9 million for his deciding vote on the trade deal. How many of the candidates can be bought? I know 1 who doesn’t need their cash... and that matters to me. Congress runs on fat cats, lobbyists... and the people are ignored. That matters to me.
Yes, how many of these “Conservatives” have turned out to be McConnell lackeys? Too many.
In other words, he is exactly the same as all the other candidates except for his net worth.
Somebody should sell tickets.
Heres the joke on the GOP. The GOP is liberal!
I, too, am for Cruz, although I’d hate to lose him as my senator.
How is it even possible that so many people trust a person with 4 business bankruptcies and 3 marriages?
Sorry, not me, no way.
