My iPads have been generally immortal
This one I type on is running Beta 9.1 without a hitch
I, unfortunately, have no need to upgrade.... Yet
Also, lack of any place to store the stylus is curious. Even Microsoft's silly cloth loop is better than nothing, which is what Apple provides. IMHO, it would have made far more sense to have some sort of groove on the side, with something like the "MagSafe" connector used on the laptops, so that you could store and charge the stylus when it wasn't being used.
I'm also curious why they didn't use Bluetooth for the keyboard. As designed, you can only use the keyboard in one specific position. If you're in a situation where the that specific position won't work (in a coach airplane seat?), then the keyboard is useless.
The base unit seems nice enough, but unless you are already committed to the iOS environment, the Surface Pro seems like a more reasonable choice for the intended market (i.e. enterprise business).
1. It won't be long before some genius protective third party case maker has a nice case with a stylus holder available;
2. A real smart third party case maker will "fix" the ridiculous way that Apple charges the "pencil" by building that capability into a protective case. I'm thinking it'll just be a simple adapter and cord built into the protective case. (Hmm. I should probably file for a patent for that right now.)
Beyond that, it's going to be interesting to see the comparisons to the Surface 3 since Microsoft Office apps run on iOS now.
I like it, but they described their market as high end enterprise mostly, so I don’t know why they didn’t go with at least a 21” screen on it.
An one Stylus isn’t so much an innovation, why didn’t they provide at least two, since part of their market strategy is also people working off the same screen on the device.
Overall, right now it looks like a weak copy of other devices, but if Apple is able to get it to target the high end area with their ability to make their hardware and software work well together... this might turn out as a really disruptive device in the market.
They would be taking on devices that cost 2.4-5k made by Intel for conference rooms where you still have to lug your laptop there and these existing devices don’t work with tablets in most cases.
It doesn’t look like the keyboard has a touchpad does it?
