A new study shows that Germans best-loved activity is sitting in front of the idiot boxand when theyre not doing that, theyre probably slumped in front of a computer.
The study carried out by British American Tobacco seems to show thatdespite recent protestations that theyre the industrious Europeansmodern Germans are among of the biggest layabouts in human history.
Only three percent of the 2,000 people surveyed said that they dont regularly sit in front of the telly, making it by far Germanys most popular pastime.
On the other hand more virtuous, traditional German pastimes like camping, joining a clubor even having cake and coffeeseem to be dying a death.

I’d say they’re more a nation of future headless krauts.
The study carried out by British American Tobacco seems to showAlmost everything said about Germany from a British source is demented psycho babble.
I was at my daughter's school a few days ago for a running event to raise money for construction and remarked to my wife how fit most everyone looked.
Two observations. Any report by a British entity on Germany....is normally bogus. Any report by a Germany entity on England.....is normally bogus.
The two groups don’t mix, period.
Any report by a Germany entity on England.....is normally bogus.A third observation for you - I don't recall seeing many of those. Unlike the other way around.
Except at the royalty level, of course.
Ich bin ein stubenhocker!
Oh, the Gemuetlichkeit!
Ha,the Putsch starts at eight!
It’s probably three to one....Brits reporting on Germans. However, if you were to say the magic word “American”....the Germans probably publish an eight to one negative commentary on Americans.
You omitted your observed numerical ratio for America on Germany.
Btw - I would say British on Germany is easily more like 10 to 1. The London press is notoriously anti-German. Almost as if WW2 is still going on - LoL!
In an average year....I doubt if there are more than a hundred general articles from mainstream American press on Germany...which people pick up or notice. In terms of business-related or banking articles....the US press probably produces a thousand articles per year on Germany, if you read the WSJ or watch the business channel. If you looked for negative slant articles on Germany...it’s a handful which get picked up and read...probably less than ten a year.
Your observed ratio for British on America would be interesting also.
Less than 10 cherry picked from a particular source makes no good sense for this discussion.
Here are five realities I’ve come to notice over the past decade in Germany:
1. The Brits absolutely believe WW II is still going on. Doesn’t matter if we are discussing soccer, world balance, economics, or EU business.
2. If you go to Dresden, the Brits are condemned in ninety-nine different ways by the locals or tourist guides (the fire-bombing will never be forgotten....even in 200 years).
3. Just about everything that has occurred in a bad way over the past twenty years....gets blamed back to George Bush. That’s the message and theme you get with German state-run TV news.
4. Germans continually harp on wonderful their neighbors think of them, and how they’ve crossed some imaginary boundary. Most of the neighbors all have a marginally positive view and will talk negative when given a chance. The neighbors rarely share the same view of the world.
5. Germans in general have almost no historical view of themselves beyond 1932. If you drag up the Kaiser or anything from the 1700s....they just look at you. Most historical German movies relate from 1932 to the modern era.
