The Words Trump Doesn’t Use [Says He’s Fine With Affirmative Action] by Jim Geraghty September 10, 2015

Did you ever think you would see the day when the GOP front-runner rarely uttered the words “freedom” and “liberty”? Perhaps some Republicans can be accused of loving liberty and freedom too much — or at least using those words as rhetorical crutches. Donald Trump is not one of them. The current GOP presidential front-runner rarely uses the words “freedom” or “liberty” in his remarks at all. Trump didn’t use the words “freedom” or “liberty” in his announcement speech. He didn’t use those words in his Nashville speech on August 29, or his Nashville rally on August 21, or his appearance at the Iowa State Fair on August 15, or his rally and news conference in New Hampshire on August 14, or his news conference in Birch Run, Mich., or his press conference in Laredo, Texas, on July 23.

He didn’t use those words while discussing his signing of the Republican National Committee’s pledge last Thursday, or in his contentious interview with Hugh Hewitt the same day. The current GOP presidential front-runner rarely uses the words ‘freedom’ or ‘liberty’ in his remarks at all.

Trump did use the term “free-market” once during his Meet the Press interview with Chuck Todd, in a defense of his qualified support for affirmative action:

“Well, you know, you have to also go free market. You have to go capability. You have to do a lot of things. But I’m fine with affirmative action.”

The word “liberty” didn’t even come up. This is an unusual vocabulary for a Republican front-runner. It wasn’t that long ago that grass-roots conservatives showed up at Tea Party rallies with signs reading, “Liberty: All the Stimulus We Need.” The Tea Party named itself after an event organized by the Sons of Liberty. The GOP platform declares the party was “born in opposition to the denial of liberty.”

Freedom and liberty are nice words - but so are ‘America’ and ‘great’.

Without freedom and liberty American isn't great.

But don’t you know that if conservatives don’t throw over their principles and dutifully Jump on the Trump band wagon, they are just RINOs and GOPe?

I see on NR’s front page is running two Trump hit pieces. They looked to have doubled their stupid scribbling efforts from one time a day to hit Trump.

Every time Trump says something which is NOT politically correct, his poll numbers go up! Leant to read the tea leaves. What it is telling us is that people do not give a sheet about PC.

People are sick of illegals, lack of middle class jobs, climbing national debt taking us closer to Greece, attacks on police, veterans getting worse healthcare than illegals, China+Mexico stealing our jobs, The horrible Iran deal, inability to defeat a 3rd rate army of ISIS, no Wall on the southern border after 30 years of promises, on and on.

If anyone thinks people are more concerned about Trump’s non-PC talk over all above issues, you do not understand why Trump is at 32% in a field of 17 candidates.

Not mentioning freedom and liberty is supposed to mean what? That they are opposed by Trump? Good try but won’t fly.

Sounds like the Open Borders bunch that runs the GOP just gave the media a new app to run on their flip phones.

I saw Kelly and Kraut had their daily Trump bash fest over bloviating the Icarly nonsense. Kelly could have went places working for USSR Pravda back in day.

No matter what you say, these folks will persist in believing that Trump’s popularity is due to some blind faith in his yet to be announced policies (besides his only stated one - border security) and not the frustrated middle finger to the establishment he actually represents.

He also quite possibly be the hammer to crack the lock the GOPe has on the national party.

Freedom and Liberty are the dreamed-for goals. Trump is focused on how to get us closer to there.

I really like Trump but don’t like the way he went after Ben Carson. Carson has a lot of admirers and is a great man with a lot of supporters. For the first time, I think Trump has gone a little too far. I wish it wasn’t so.

I hope not. Of course I’ll take Trump over Bush ANYTIME should that be the choice, but I really hope he at least stays in long enough to destroy Yeb’s campaign. Its the only way the guy I like, Cruz, has a prayer of winning.

Only Scalia, Alito and Thomas have stood up on the issue.

What has the Congressional GOP done even to campaign on the issue.

Trump will appoint a trash talker like Scalia to the bench.

Someone who doesn’t talk like a politically correct loser(ie. Kennedy & Scalia).

Roberts, Kennedy, Jeb, Dubya, Rick Perry, Rick Snyder, Carly Fiorina, Marco Rubio, Pawlenty,
Boehner, McConnell, Rand Paul, Tim Scott, Deb Fischer & others are terrible on the issue.

Jeb gave the top 15% of the Ghetto a free pass to College.

That white girl from Sugar Land Texas was competing with the top 10% of Houston and Dallas Public Schools with the top 10% of other schools to get into college.

The top 10% of an urban high school is not the same as suburban or rural top 10%.

So without an America and its greatness there is no freedom or liberty. What are you trying to really say? You are just a little bit to transparent.

Kelly is a very sick little twit. She is showing how bad she got hit and it is driving her little smile like a woman scorned. As for the Kraut, he has lost his mind.
