Not a great movie. Has some severe choppiness in continuity. Never figured out how a dazzling urbanite like Ben Gazzara ended up in Mudpuddle Hillbillystan.

But I enjoyed it.

Agree re: choppiness. It’s obvious a bunch of film ended up on the cutting room floor, and continuity was not a big concern.

I get it. Knew a few people like that in the small town I grew up in - though not to Gazzara's extreme, obviously. Lots of redneck locals, coupled with a fair number of well-heeled, old money Northeastern Liberals, makes for strange bedfellows.

It's a power thing. "I'm better/smarter/richer than ALL of you." or "I'm more educated/well-travelled/urbane than ALL of you."

It was common around the college I attended (middle-of-nowhere State U). Imagine a theatrical sigh, coupled with some variant of "It's a trial for me, but I must bring enlightenment to these unwashed hayseeds." That sort of thing.

As a rule, we redneck locals were mostly unimpressed. The snob money spent nicely, though.

Last time I watched it I realized it’s basically an A-Team episode. Only with an amazing soundtrack and nudity. So I guess it’s nothing like an A-Team episode.
