>>It implied that as long as we remain disabled, we have nothing to offer or contribute, that our only hope was a cure. The telethon put forth the false and simplistic notion that the best way to serve disabled people is to contribute to behemoth charities that claim they will cure us.<<
I never ONCE came away with that impression from the MDA telethon. Jerry dealt with the victims (there is no other word) of this disease with dignity and actually screwed around with them alot.
Freaking ingrates.
OK, you think you can operate in society with no help? NO special wheelchairs, no special subsidies for help animals and subsidies for communication devices. No special pain-reducing drugs. NOTHING that costs money.
Just live your life tended by your family in your living room, the way it was before Jerry spent all this effort for 40 years (and he worked from the day after the Telethon until its execution the next year).
Stew in your juices, you ingrates and don’t ask for a DIME of my tax money, much less use any of the donations of millions of kind-hearted people all over the USA.
Extremely well put. TY
Serious chip on the shoulder, he has.
And this'll probably send you into youtube Jerry Lewis madness for the next few hours ... I miss him
