This is how one of the U.S. Navy's biggest war machines celebrated its first time on the seas after almost two years cooped up in a naval yard.
The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, an enormous, nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, blasted out to sea off the coast of Virginia and put its tuned-up systems to the test.
Footage of the voyage - its first since fall 2013 - was recorded in late August and shows the vessel's huge engines pushing it through high-speed turns at some 35mph.

Liberal: But.....but.....but, Eisenhower was a war monger we should rename the ship after someone peaceful......how about the USS Rachel Corrie?
They could nickname name it the pancake.
Well it is called a flattop!
Wouldn’t it be cool if Congress would pass a bill requiring that all Navy WARSHIPS be named after “hawks”? Naming them after peaceniks, strawberry pickers and Democrat politicians seems a bit hypocritical to me, IMHO. ;o)

If you’re the least bit prone to seasickness, this would be no fun.
I rode out hurricane David on a frigate off Charleston in 1979.

Bet the guys on the bridge had a blast!
A magnificent ship.
I have a good friend who was stationed on the Carl Vinson. He said and I quote, “you would not believe how sharp a turn she can make”, “dancin’ on the ceiling is a bit of an overstatement”, “walkin’ on walls is more like the ride I took”.
I am thinking what the video shows, and the capabilities of our Navy and its crafts, are much better than advertised.
So is Rachel
As a child back in the 50's I was a passenger on a coverted destroyer run by the Army - The USS Butner. We crossed the North Atlantic in the wintertime bound for Europe. I was sick from the time I stepped off the dock in NY until I stepped on in Bremerhaven. Not a hurricane, but total misery.

It’s called roll, pitch and yaw. Yikes! Pass the bucket!
Those little boats following the thing out to sea, are they just civilian spectators trying to run with the big dogs, or are they some kind of official escort.
If you want to see a seasickness video, you should see one that my brother taped while assigned to a destroyer that was headed into a storm in the middle of the Atlantic. Ay yi yi...
I’ll bet they’re just having fun running with the Ike.
Even as a strapping young man, I never would have made it crab fishing on Deadliest Catch with those Bering sea storms.
They could nickname it the flapjack.
I thought it was lettuce pickers? I remember being harassed by them in the parking lot of the local market that wasn't carrying lettuce with the union label. Circa 1980, 81.
