I bought gas last night and noticed that the stickers on the pumps that states "contains 10% ethanol" have been removed from the gas pumps in my area. Meaning that they can put E15 in there without notice.
Be on the lookout for the removal of these stickers at you local dealer, and don't purchase gasoline at stations that don't have the 10% sticker affixed or the ethanol free.
I’ll dig for it after work. IIRC they described spent mash as “industrial waste”...
Thanks, this is news to me, as the mash is excellent feed, especially for cattle.
Thanks for the ping.
To determine if ethanol is in the gas:
On a test tube or olive bottle six or seven inches long, make a permanent line about two inches from the bottom.
Fill with water to this line, then fill the tube to the top with gasoline.
Cover the tube, agitate it, and let it stand.
The ethanol and water will mix and separate out together. If the water level appears to have increased, the fuel contains ethanol and should not be used. Ethanol percentages of less than 5% can sometimes give a reading below the line. Therefore, any deviation in the water line indicates the presence of ethanol and should serve as a basis for rejecting the fuel.
Yes it is.
No man’s life, liberty or property are safe as long as congress (or court) is in session.
Hmmm. If you decant the gasoline off the water/alcohol mix is it OK to use now that the alcohol has been extracted?
I haven’t seen any sales like 6/$1 corn on the cob at the grocery store this summer. Guess we know now know why.
Another great reason to live in OK. Within 2 miles of my house there are 3 100% gas stations. OnCue’s have taken over in Okc, and they all offer both. Right now it is about $.40 to $.50 higher for the good stuff. I will pay it though. The savings in gas mileage recovers most of that extra cost, and all it takes is damage to one vehicle to wipe out any cost benefit of ethanol.
If the recent report that E10 stickers are being removed from gas pumps spreads, here’s what some of us more paranoid types suspect is going on. Some of us believe these removals are designed to implement the next step in a devious bureaucratic ploy to unbeknownst to the general public move those former E10 gas pumps to E15! E15 (15% ethyl alcohol or ethanol) CAN and HAS damaged or destroyed engines in older vehicles. Unfortunately, given the sad state of the knowledge/interest level of the current government school educated populace here, many of those vehicle owners won’t have a clue as to why “Old Betsy” (or, per a recent TV spot, “Brad”) gave up the ghost. Let’s step through this E15 push based on a “Que bono” (who benefits) analysis.
According to Wikipedia, the ethanol program began in the late ‘70s under Jimma Contrived Energy Crisis, Put a Paper Bag Over Your Head to Stay Warm Carter and gained momentum, as all these things do per my recent Perpetual Motion rant, under Democrats AND Republicans.
OK, let’s enter the dark, mysterious realm of PARANOIA!
Vehicles with damaged/destroyed engines will be off the road until repaired (if possible) or replaced. Their removal from the roads gives the obozo’s ecofreaks’ desired reduction in their “carbon footprint” baloney. A win for obozo and his ecofreak supporters.
The citizens who own those damaged vehicles will be limited in their free mobility, forcing them to use the public transportation historically relied upon by tyrannies as a means of control of movement of their populations. The poor for whom obozo and his progressive pals exude such compassion will bear the brunt of the economic pain as they struggle to replace their rides. A win for obozo.
After a cost benefit analysis by citizens who can afford to do so, many of the vintage vehicles will be replaced by NEW ones. Those who opt for American produced replacements will positively impact obozo’s worsening by design GDP and unemployment numbers. A win for obozo.
Then, of course, there are the largely corporate agribusiness farms where all this ethanol producing corn is grown. While the field corn used is not a desirable foodstuff, can someone give me the name of the genius who thought it was a great idea to devote millions of acres of good land to raise this stuff to burn it in our cars and trucks after fermenting it into ethanol (actually moonshine, making this government program the world’s largest bootlegger) but that’s a topic for another day. Another que bono topic for another day is how the loss of that acerage for food corn significantly reduces the food available to reduce starvation in the Third World. Oh wait. Obozo, Hillary and their fellow humanitarian Democrats are big fans of Margaret Sanger and others who believe 7 billion humans and many are the wrong race on the earth are too many.
But I digress.
If you’re still asking who would do these things and why, let’s examine what obozo’s EPA has recently been up to.
The EPA was involved in the release of huge soil or toxic waste releases in Lake Oconee in Georgia and the Gold King Mine in Colorado. There have been other such events (not widely reported or investigated by a complicit leftist media) some of us paranoid types believe to have been intentional as make-work schemes for the busy little bureaucrats at EPA while, at the same time (in other busy work make-work schemes) the EPA is citing and fining land owners for such horribly environment destroying activities as wait for it constructing PONDS on their PRIVATE PROPERTY at the same time they are literally drying up California to save some 2 long fish downstream.
Let me wrap up with this.
In addition to all the alleged benefits obozo and his minions feel these activities accrue to him and his fellow progressives, there is one more very personal benefit for obozo: Each and every one of these actions causes pain for the Americans who are beginning to push back against his orchestrated plan to DAMAGE or DESTROY THIS COUNTRY! Take THAT, you ungrateful riffraff! If those actions cause some of HIS people (and I mean his supporters of ALL races and ideologies!), so be it. Can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs, right?
That said, I’ve come to believe that His Stridency, King Obozo has over-stepped BIG TIME and it’s begun to backfire on him and the RINOs who have rolled over for him with each new abomination (did I spell that right?)! We’ll know if that’s the case come November, 2016.
Final thought: Just because I’m paranoid DOES NOT mean they’re not out to get us!
I'm no fan of the politics of the ethanol program, but looking around at used cars the last couple weeks, I'm impressed by the number for sale with 150,000 or 200,000 miles on them. If ethanol is killing our engines, it's not obvious by the marketplace.
According to the AAA, the break point SEEMS to be somewhere between E10 and E15 where the damaged occurs.
Mandatory labeling is a disaster for our farmers. Canada and Mexico will ramp up the restrictions on our products if this happens. Best to have voluntary food labeling on a local level. The store itslef should let you know where things come from....not your govt. Otherwise do not purchase it.
FDA, and they backed down.
“Actually E15 is 85% gasoline.”
Yes. I agree.
The poster whom I replied to was writing E85 - it’s 15% gasoline.
Now that you found it, I do remember the effort the FDA went to.
Thanks
so may I ask an ignorant question. I have a diesel car.
I know I cannot use the colored diesel, but I use the diesel with the yellow or green handles at the pump.
Some places it is called “bio-diesel”. But there is nothing on the pumps that say that ethanol is in the diesel. So what makes it bio-diesel and different from colored diesel except for the dye?
Bio-diesel is masde from vegetable/cooking oil.
http://www.usfreedombiofuels.com/
They make conversion kits for bio-fuels.
It’s like regular diesel, but it has fewer BTU’s than regular.
It gels at higher temperatures than regular. But it is completely compatible with regular.
Well Talked to my dealership service department today and they do not recommend it and say that it will hurt my engine. Unfortunately there is no other diesel in the area. So I am gain to have to trade in my Golf TDI with about 35K on it.
I would think that bio-diesel is probably OK to use in your VW during the summer, but would be hesitant to use it much past November as the risk of Gelling is significant.
You can mix Bio with Regular but I am not sure how much kerosene you can add to it to keep it form gelling at sub-zero temps.
The trouble with bio-fuels is that they don’t have the same BTU content as the stuff that comes out of the ground.
I can’t imagine that you have all that much bio-fuels in your area unless it’s mandated by your state. There is none of the bio fuels in my area, Western NY. The state mandates E10 gasoline, and they do mandate that the pumps be posted with the entanol content, and methanol too. So that was my concern with the removal of the E10 label form the pump.
