The half-hour special, set during the time period of the drama’s companion series, “Fear the Walking Dead”, chronicles a group of passengers facing a walker attack while in flight, reported Entertainment Weekly.

One character who survives that encounter will then join the cast of “Fear the Walking Dead” on season two.

The airline attack story will debut online, and will unfold in chapters that will air during “Walking Dead”s on-air telecasts.

The one guy (Travis) was able to fix the sink by himself. As silly as that sounds, he probably has the greatest degree of independence in LA - and thus has the greatest survivalist instincts.

You know, that was a hell of a catch! Didn't even register to me until your comment.

I thought the first episode of Fear was very boring, but even worse, showed the same sort of sloppiness that has made Walking Dead hard to enjoy. I'll give you an example:

The son fights with the drug dealer for the gun and kills him. Then he runs up the tunnel to call his stepdad. The parents drive over, pick him up, drive back through the tunnel, park the truck in the tunnel mouth, and go look for the drug dealer. They don't find him, but as they go to get back in the truck, they see zombie drug dealer shuffling toward them from WITHIN the tunnel.

How did the zombie get through the tunnel without the son, or the parents ever seeing him? The zombie drug dealer would have walked to the same location as the son as he made the phone call, and to the same location that the parents picked him up. Somehow, either zombie drug dealer was invisible, or he was hiding. I suspect the guys making the show just thought that a scene with the zombie coming down the tunnel would be so cool, man, they never gave a thought to how impossible it was.

So you want to talk Wesley Crusher...that would be Carl. There have been so many episodes where I wanted to scream at the screen when he’s doing anything.

As far as Walking in general, it’s never been perfect, even terrible at times. In fact, the acting, story and pacing have downright sucked on occasion.

Is it news that the Walking Dead is going to show a zombie attack?

It is huge and serious.

I could give an explanation that works, but I do agree with your statement about lazy writing. On Walking I often have to bite my tongue to ignore the dumb, or lazy writing. I look past to find entertainment.

The writer of TWD said that zombie lore does not exist in the Walking Dead universe - so when the outbreak happened, no one had any idea what was going on.

One episode of TWD I’d really like to see would be a flashback episode centered around some of the major characters and what they were doing when the world went to hell. Daryl and Merle would be great. These are stories worth telling

“There are no Darryls in Los Angeles. Georgia has people that are survivalists, to one degree or another. Los Angeles is entirely full of people who are completely dependent on “the authorities”.

My take, exactly. I hope all the people in L A stay in L A.

I think if I were to see dead people walking and eating folks, I would recognize them instantly as zombies.

In a nutshell, that was explained many seasons ago. In this imaginary world, the term "zombie" does not exist and that's why the characters of TWD had to learn how to kill them by destroying their brains and refer to them as "Walkers" instead of "Zombies".

And if you are a follower of TWD, each separate group that is encountered has their own terminology for those walking dead..........

BINGO! Give that man a Cupie Doll! This is the biggest flaw in "Fear the Walking Dead" that I noted right off the bat. It is like the ENTIRE population of Los Angeles, centrally located near the movie capital of the world has never seen a single zombie movie going all the way back to 1968's classic "Night of the Living Dead". The premise of the TV show is therefore, utterly ridiculous. You have dead people reanimated from the dead, impervious to ALL forms of "kill shots" EXCEPT TO THE HEAD, E A T I N G P E O P L E and I N F E C T I N G E V E R Y O N E T H E Y B I T E, and nobody in the entire story has a clue! Not one of the main or piriferal characters says: "say, these guys are DEAD, they are impervious to bullets except to the head, they are maniacally eating and infecting everyone they can get their cold dead hands and teeth on... they must be ZOMBIES, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!" No, everyone is like "duh, they are dead, they are unkillable except to the head, they are attacking, eating and infecting everyone alive they can get a hold of... what can the possibly mean?" "We haven't got a clue, what should we do?" "Let's protest the mean old police and athorities for shooting these poor, sick, wildly rabid DEAD people so many times! "Even though they are DEAD and trying to eat all of us, maybe grandma and Johnny are just sick and we need to nurse them back to health by treating them with aspirin!" Yeah, that's the ticket; take them to the doctor and give them aspirine.

The utter cluelessness of virtually the ENTIRE population of Los Angeles, all government officials along with the CDC and EVERY character in the show is so off putting it ruins the story because it goes beyond the suspension of reality and belief!

It would be amazing if some random 13 year old kid who reads graphic novels, comic books or watches cult classic zombie movies steps up to the camera addresses the "authorities" or any of the main characters and says: "I know exactly what is going on... the dead have been reanimated, they are ZOMBIES, they KILL, EAT and INFECT THE LIVING AND THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN KILL THEM IS BY DESTROYING THEIR BRAINS OR CUTTING THE HEADS OFF, oh and one more thing... they can't be treated or cured; they must be destroyed." It would be so refreshing, but that would be too easy, instead we will be forced to watch everyone uselessly flail around for weeks, acting totally oblivious to what is happening until they, like simple minded children SLOWLY begin to "figure out what is going on" = "2 + 2 = 5, opps I mean 2 + 2 = 4... the maniacally, rabid people are DEAD... the maniacally, rabid, dead people are attacking, killing, eating and infecting the living... the maniacally, rabid, dead killing/infecting "people" are BAD... we must run, hide and defend ourselves from the maniacally, rabid, killing/infecting dead "people"... the only way we can kill the maniacally, rabid, dead killing/infecting "people" is to inflict a mortal wound to their heads... duh, I think that's water we need to do!"

Oh, one more thing; under absolutely no circumstances is anyone on the show to use the forbidden word "Zombie".

My husband and I both thought the premiere episode was okay...it held our interest enough to keep us watching, at least for now.

I didn’t really go into it expecting another TWD, which is a rare coming-together of all the right elements-—casting, writing, etc. It’s hard to duplicate that.

Marvel once owned the rights to the word zombie. As improbable as it sounds, Marvel attempted to trademark the word zombie in comic book titles after publishing Tale of the Zombie in 1973.
By the time the trademark was approved two years later, the series was coming to an end. Marvel lost the trademark in 1996 but it wasn’t long before it was once again trademarking the armies of the undead, registering the words Marvel Zombies to protect its comic series of the same name. With DC, Marvel also trademarked the phrase ‘Super Hero’.

There’s a trope that the parallel universe in which zombies take place have no knowledge of such a phenomena, whereas the Indian Sanskrit literature has the undead rising to follow the bidding of evil several thousand years ago at the end of the world.

I’ve also noticed that the concept of “zombie” is
unknown within the Walking Dead series even though
zombies are part of the mythology of various
cultures in one form or another. I don’t really
understand how using the term zombie from the
start of The Walking Dead first season could
have had a negative effect on the series. But
since they haven’t used it so far I reckon
it would be dumb to start at this point.
