Keeping them free of dust in the grooves was the key though.

I'm trying to remember what I used, back in the day (goodness, it must have been pre-1985!) It was a contoured wooden block, with a velvet or microfiber like pad, and a solution in a bottle... Disc Washer, I think?

I had a very nice Dual belt drive turntable, with a Dual-Ortofon cartridge (Ultra-light?)

My memory of it isn't that great, but I had a terrific album collection.

Yep, that was the tool to use to clean them. I had a linear tracking turntable, can’t remember the brand now but it was expensive back in the day. At least to me, LOL.

Me, too. Every play started with me carefully pulling the LP from the inner jacket with care, touching the edges only, wiping with the Disc Washer, gently putting the arm down, and closing the turntable cover as quickly as possible. I had a Thorens turntable and excellent arm and cartridges. But no matter how hard you tried, you still got pops and clicks.

I’m very happy with my entire music collection in MP3 on my 128 GB iPhone 6 Plus. Don’t miss the foregoing silly ritual AT ALL.

Oh yeah, I remember the various record cleaning gizmos. At one point we had a three sided yellow pump bottle of record cleaning fluid with one edge covered in velvet. You’d spritz some cleaner onto the record then turn the bottle on edge and wipe it clean. That was forever ago and I was just a kid but I’ve recently gotten back into vinyl. The cool thing is that you can buy the absolute top of the line turntables and receivers from back in the day for relatively little money on eBay. I bought a fantastic Yamaha rig a few years ago in brushed aluminum and have accumulated a hundred or so LPs to play on it. The nostalgia factor is huge.
