Scott Walker on Sunday took his third position within seven days on Donald Trump's proposal to end birthright citizenship, this time saying he opposes Trump and supports the policy.
The Wisconsin governor and Republican presidential candidate was asked on ABC's "This Week" whether he backs Trump's push to end the 14th Amendment's mandate that all children born in the United States are automatically granted citizenship.
"Well, I said the law is there. And we need to enforce the laws, including those that are in the Constitution," Walker said, adding that he favors addressing illegal immigration by improving border security and requiring businesses to use a system called E-Verify to check workers' legal status.
ABC's George Stephanopoulos pressed further, asking: "So you're not seeking to repeal or alter the 14th Amendment?"
"No," Walker said. "My point is, any discussion that goes beyond securing the border and enforcing the laws are things that should be a red flag to voters out there, who for years have heard lip service from politicians and are understandably angry because those politicians haven't been committed to following through on those promises."
It's a different answer than the one Walker gave Monday at the Iowa State Fair.
Asked by MSNBC's Kasie Hunt whether birthright citizenship should be ended, he said then: "Yeah, absolutely, going forward."
Walker cited Nevada Democratic Sen. Harry Reid's support for ending the policy -- in the early 1990s introduced legislation that would have revoked the 14th Amendment's guarantee of citizenship for U.S.-born children. Reid has since reversed that position.
"Yeah," he said on Monday at the fair. "To me it's about enforcing the laws in this country. And I've been very clear, I think you enforce the laws, and I think it's important to send a message...

Self-destruction is never pretty.
Trump is right about the large amount being borrowed in Wisconsin. Walker has increased spending by 5% each year he has been in office. Tax cuts come at the expense of more debt.
Currently Walker’s approval rating in Wisconsin is 39%.
We really don’t need to change the Constitution:
We could begin getting rid of them tomorrow if we simple enforced the law requiring that only U.S. citizens or legal residents could be hired.
And if we were to institute a very high tax on money-orders sent to Mexico.
The wetbacks would start self-deporting immediately if they couldn’t send money back to Mexico.
Yep. They would deliver that money personally in Mexico.
“Currently Walkers approval rating in Wisconsin is 39%.”
Which just goes to show that once a state turns blue it inherently will remain blue. Occasionally, there will be a “Republican” elected governor in such states (Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, etc.), but he likely will be a RINO and will be given a short leash. Socialism is a terminal cancer on the body politic. There are some treatments, but none is curative.

We should all be kind to Scott Walker’s Free Republic suporters ...
It’s not their fault that he’s chosen to embarrass them ...
We’ve all here been embarrassed (at least once) by our “preferred candidate” ...
I’m a big fan of Newt Gingrich (when he’s not supporting John Boehner and sitting on a sofa with Nancy Pelosi) ...
So let’s be easy on on friends here ...
.
Flip to Flop to Flip Flip Flippy Dippy to Flop. LMAO he is a RINO GOPe. I used to like the guy till I found out he’s an open borders cheap labor express douche.
Walker is demonstrating his ‘waffling’ abilities, which if he WERE President, how many OTHER issues would he be waffling about?
Spoken like a true conservative!
Flop
I think the markets have seen peak Walker.
Embarrassing, to put it mildly. Can anyone trust this guy after this Clintonian display?
So you think it is a good idea to borrow money and then cut taxes? If you can cut spending and give tax breaks, fine. Walker has raised spending by at least 5% every year since he has been in office, while borrowing massive amounts of money.
Genius, Walker cut Wisconsin's deficit and spending.
Trump thinks cutting spending is wrong and that Walker should have increased taxes.
If you want to get into the minutiae of Wisconsin budgeting, we can do that....otherwise, admit you and Trump have no clue what you are talking about....except regurgitating the liberal ejaculate you swallow happily.
As Walker said, the liberals tried this against him since his election and it did not work.
Well, I guess Walker was wrong...it does work....on liberals and mindless FReepers.
Walker borrows massive amounts of money and has increased state spending by 5% every year he has been in office.
If he had a surplus, why is he proposing borrowing $1 billion to fix roads?
Maybe you should familiarize yourself with Wisconsin budgeting before making an ass of yourself.
Wisconsin runs on a 2-year budget cycle. Revenue does not align with spending. So, the state uses short-term borrowing to cover the gap.
Wisconsin's debt is at its lowest in a decade. Walker is paying it down.
But when Trump spouts off, you people just swallow it without thinking. Trump is wrong and his attack is identical to the liberal attacks on Walker taking place during the recall and today....they are meant to confuse the voter with facts and figures while ignoring the reality.
Just keep whistling past the graveyard. It must be disorienting trying to keep up with all the positions he has taken on just immigration alone. He has a tough time trying to make all his donors happy, which is one big reason he would be a lousy President.
Just keep ignoring Walker's RECORD as governor where he implemented more of the conservative agenda than any other candidate in modern history and you just continue to listen to the traveling snake oil salesman tell you what you want to hear.
