*Taller than famous Rio de Janiero and Lisbon statues
*Intended as symbol of rebirth of Russian Far East and rebirth of Christianity
The statue was cast in 2013 by Tsereteli, the famous Georgian-Russian sculptor, known for his gigantic projects such as a statue of Peter the Great in Moscow and The Tear of Grief in the United States, dedicated to the struggle against world terrorism.
The monument stands 50 metres taller than the world famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, and two metres higher than The Christ the King in Lisbon.
In Vladivostok, the monument will be composed of two parts: the statue itself and the pedestal housing a cathedral in honour of Archangel Michael.
The project was inspired by a local businessman Aleksey Shchepin, who donated two hectares of land overlooking the sea on the Churkin Peninsula for it to be built.

The Russians are doing this?
Wow that something
Probably so they can have Putin come and shoot it with an anti aircraft gun...
I don’t think Vlady would do that
Our US Presidnet would
Whoever is not against him.... As He said...
Their star is rising and ours is setting............
If they’re going to build a statue of him, how do they know what he looked like? The Bible provides no description.
We Orthodox have a good idea of Our Lord’s appearance because of the agreement between the Palestianian school of iconography and the Icon-Not-Made-by-Hands preserved first in Edessa, then in Constantinople for centuries. All Orthodox iconography of Our Lord is based on those sources, just as iconography of the Theotokos is based on the icons painted from life by St. Luke the Evangelist.
Romans 1:22-24
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
Good for them! I bet the statue will be looking towards Alaska!
He was Semitic-looking. Dark skin, luminous brown eyes and hair. He was beautiful, and yet no one could ever remember precisely how he looked after they saw Him, even though they always immediately recognized Him afterwards. The most striking thing about Him was the feeling of dissolving into pure love you got when He looked at you, even in the shortest glance, and how that feeling would stay strong with you for days afterwards.
It’s a clear message to the Muslims.
Think of the movie, “The Passion of the Christ”, the scenes of Our Lord before His passion.
In other words, to expose their errors.
I have a few books on the Eastern Christian icons and have seen the famous icon based from the one in Edessa.
Perhaps the Pope will give more thought to ‘consecrating’ Russia and keep our world spinning awile longer?

Hope it’s not a “buddy Jesus”
Putin needs to erect that giant statue of Jesus in the middle of Moscow, maybe in Red Square itself.
Every Friday the streets of Moscow are inundated with a human flood of Muslims doing their arselifting. They lock down streets and badger local churches to allow Islamic worship within.
A Jesus statue taller than the Motherland Calls statue outside Volgograd would send a real message to the muzzies infesting Moscow.
While certain “Americans” are agitating for the removal symbols of Christ in this country.
