Ill say this right here at the beginning: Shooting a drone out of the sky is probably a bad idea. But, if youre dead set on taking down one of those unmanned flying camera copters, Snake River Shooting Products makes a shotgun shell made for that specific purpose.
The packaging says, Prepare for the drone apocalypse! which is either a joke or a really alarmist thing to make people feel paranoid. The shells are full of #2 steel shot, which is rather big, meaning that hitting a drone from a reasonable range with one of these would likely reduce it to a pile of smashed electronics.
Its interesting to see some commenters noting that a smaller gauge shot would actually give you a better chance of disabling the rotors and then selling the intact electronic guts like the camera.
Luckily, youre not totally out of luck if that apocalypse never comes buzzing around our heads. From the website, As a side note, the round also makes for a very high end hunting load for ducks, geese or turkeys. So, if the turkey apocalypse happens, you're good then, too.
My #4 turkey shot (which is also my home defense round of choice for the shotgun) and my Saiga 12 can remove any plastic pests.
Those will have to do until I get my backyard SAM system up and running..
I think it's an intercorsing great idea!
I'm surprised no one's tried to crowd-source a project to build an automated anti-drone weapon!
Only a matter of time, I suppose.
I’m dubious.
We need the homeowner version of Phalanx.
I’ve worked on one, but so far it’s taken out too many Cessnas and Ultralights to really release for sale...
I think bolas (like the gauchos use) would be more fun and challenging. Half the fun would be experimenting with what could give you the distance...bolts...nuts...some rocks duct taped to shoelaces... you could go full MacGuyver with the project.
Use your own custom modded drone to drop a small net made of fishing line on top of the invader. Fouls the props.
That could do it!
Plus, not a firearm and legal to shoot in my back yard.
Add a laser sight and possibilties arise.
When some yahoo eventually shoots down a law enforcement drone it’ll be fun to see the SWAT team do something “justifiable” to him.
I’ll tell you where this is going. Someday, somebody is going to invent a drone warning system, like a mini radar system that detects small metalic flying objects above your property. And to compliment that, someone will invent an attack drone to throw a net or otherwise incapacitate the “visiting” drone in such a way as to do as little damage to the invader as possible. Then you pick up the offending machine and take it to your local police department.
That’s not 00 buck. Actually looks more like #4 steel. And
the bacon looks like artificial bacon bits.

How about an anti drone drone. A killer attack drone.
I wonder what the fuzz would do about that.
Then again, the “eagle kills drone” from Oz on youtube rekindles an interest in falconry.
Great video... especially the quiet pathetic whine of the little motors churning on the ground. Not quite the lamentations of their women, but crying pajama boys will serve in a pinch.
