Blood pressure
13 Aug 15

I need to lower my blood pressure a little for a physical tomorrow. Is it possible to lower one's blood pressure in 24 hours? If so, how?

Eat fiber today, and definitely relax a lot, something that makes you laugh, like funny shows. You don’t want to work out like hell, but a nice long walk or just a few extra times going up stairs.

When you go there, think about where it is. If you can have someone drive you, relaxed, right to the door and drop you off, maybe early so you can sit in the a/c waiting room for a long time, that would be good. Bring something to read or look at on your phone that makes you happy or chuckle.

Don’t drink alcohol tonight, drink plenty of fluids. Eat both kinds of fiber tonight, starchy (oat bran, raw potato starch, potato salad...) and vegetable (have some fibrous veggies like broccoli, not just lettuce leaves.

No soda, no dessert except fruit.

Good luck!

Take deep breaths... and avoid frustrations, like women and children :)

Magnesium is a muscle relaxer not a blood relaxer.

Thank you. It is for my CDL and job. I was 144 over 98 and I need to be 140 over 90 or lower. Some here think I should be unemployed because of some arbitrary government number.

MY BP has been lowered by using an APAP machine while I sleep.

The saturation of more oxygen has been the key.

The correct medicines will lower your blood pressure APPROPRIATELY, which is what you need. Go see a doctor! Drinking 2 or 3 glasses of wine, or 2 or 3 beers, will also TEMPORARILY lower your blood pressure, since alcohol is a vasodilator, but then they might think you are abusing it.

Agree about Magnesium (usually 400 mg is an average dose).

The links in #8 may substantiate this.

Go for a walk—a couple miles—an hour before the physical. A fair amount of deep breathing a few minutes before the measurement will help... I think it lowers the upper number more than the lower, though. Skip coffee and tea that day, too.

However, kidding yourself about high blood pressure is no way to go through life (Animal House reference).

Oh yeah: NO SODA and NO DIET ANYTHING. Tomorrow morning (if you are allowed to eat breakfast before) eat a light breakfast with protein and fruit. No cereal, no donuts and pastries. Just eggs and or meat, and plenty of water and fruit. Fresh fruit is better than juice but if you love juice you can drink a little.

Re salt: DONT GO SUDDENLY NO SALT. Your body might react weird to that. Instead, if you usually eat tons of salt, eat slightly less. Eat no packaged food that is heavy in sodium. Sprinkle sea salt lightly on what you want salted.

If you are 144 over 98, you need to be on MEDS. It is only going to go up further!
