My house is wired for an alarm system and I'd like to do it myself. But I see that there are also wireless systems available.
Are the stick on sensors for windows and doors any good? I'm mostly just wanting some alarm when I'm asleep or in the other end of the house, etc.
Are there any particular brands to stay away from? thanx
Rush has been advertising some system recently. Do-it yourself...no contract...(unless you want monitoring)..you buy whatever works best for your needs..maybe someone here knows the name..or it’s on his website..
It may not be what you’re looking for, but I use this system:
I’ve got 4 cameras in my system. They’re HD, start recording when they sense motion, are completely wireless, are weatherproof, have night-vision, and you can access the cameras/recordings with your mobile device.
I used to have the Vuezone system, and just upgraded a week ago. Very pleased ...
The kind that only detect white guys breaking in.
The down side of wireless is that batteries have to be changed periodically.
I've been out of the business for a few years, but ultimately it's best to have an alarm company do the install; the main security panel needs to be programmed a certain way so all the components can communicate.
Other than the (battery backup) plug-in base station, everything is wireless/battery.
Also keeps working during power failures.
Just last week an ADT team hit my neighborhood in their team shirts in a sales assault.
The nice young woman back pedaled quite rapidly when greeted by my dog. Stuttering she started the sales pitch. I just pointed to my dog.
“Well, thank you for your time sir. Have a good day.”
I was looking at the arlo system....but concerned about the 4 second delay between motion triggering and start of recording. Perp could be by the camera in that time and might not be on video. Any thoughts on that?
The down side of wireless
Another downside is that they can be hacked.
Thanks.
Good reviews from consumers/users on Amazon.
“Another downside is that they can be hacked.”
Which is why my Nest thermostat is not connected to our wifi/internet/android phones/tablets and pcs.
We have a couple of very tech savy younger relatives, and nothing in their homes are connected to their smart phones. They both told me the Nest was great and not to let it get on our internet/wifi.
Of course the intruders are always white in those commercials.
I have LiveWatch. Very nice wireless system.

As far as old, outdated 802.11 wireless standards go, ol' Blue Tooth there is probably pretty effective.
I have written software to program the wireless ones and they are very good- the ONLY concern I have is battery life (did not work with any of them long enough to test how long they last)
Does anyone here have any experience with t he wireless and the battery life?
