Hi,
I just went into our above ground pool; it is leaking from the bottom. The vinyl has appeared to thin and there are three small holes. My daughter is outside doing her best to plug from the outside with duct tape.
I am still in my suit and have removed my contacts... I have duct tape. Trying to call pool stores but keep getting voice mail trees.
Any ideas before the water completely drains???
I’d say a cup from a plunger (plumber’s helper) would be more likely to stay in place than a bathtub stopper. Use a clean one of course.
Declare your yard a wetland, then apply for government funds.
Wonder if it was from hard water accumulation, which would tend to make cleaning implements tear the plastic rather than clean it.
“Just tip the whole pool upside down...”
That’s silly...you can’t do that.
Then the diving board would be on the bottom.
You have to take off first, and achieve orbit.
It’s the only way to be sure.
Possibly too much chlorine.
That must be it!!!! We switched to salt and probably the whole filter wasn’t working, so we had to add too much salt.
Going out to throw a bathtub stopper and duct tape on our giant bathtub. ;)
It sounds like the pool is finished. The vinyl is definitely thinned, I could feel it.
I’m already fighting with our insurance company over something else about our house. They’re going to love this one...
Vinyl liner
Buy vinyl patch kit containing patch and glue. The glue will work underwater. First find the holes. Put on a diving mask for easy viewing. Put glue on patch above water. Submerge and slap it on the hole. Easy peasy....fixed.
Yes, but then they would have to move as the government would declare it a wildlife protected area.
“Declare your yard a wetland, then apply for government funds.”
LOL! Actually, we do live in what used to be a swampy area, so...
Wouldn’t know if premature wear is an insurable thing. Insurance policies can be odd.
If you can push caulk or RTV into the actual holes, it should seal. The problem is, with an old liner, it’s just going to spring another leak eventually. Should work OK as a temp fix though.
PAiC...I understand your immediate need to salvage the water....and there are some good ideas suggested. Waiting for a *pro* is frustrating. I'm sorry for your bad fortune.
Throw about a 100 boxes of jello in it! ;-)
That would make it a redneck jello pool
Bubble gum on the inside.
Home Depot or Lowes can sell you sealant that WILL work UNDER WATER.
One is a black gooey substance, the other is a two part epoxy ‘clay.’
Either WILL fix the leak.
How old is this pool
Get a giant tarp.. use it as a new pool liner. :p
Kids might think its ugly though
There ya go
Just put a piece of vinyl over the holes. The suction will seal the holes. Then go to Walmart and get a patch kit. Might work until the season is over. If the liner is truly thin then you drain and replace in fall.
OK granted, a Chiuaua will in fact plug a hole of you shove one in it, but then you gotta drain the pool anyway to get rid of the bloodstains.
