Nissan scolded one of its dealers Tuesday for releasing an ad showing the battering of a piñata resembling Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Automotive News is reporting.
The ad depicts salesmen repeatedly hitting a Trump-looking piñata and declaring, At Van Nuys Nissan, Latinos rule. The ad was made after Trump denounced some undocumented Mexican immigrants as rapists in a June political speech.
We find these advertisements to be neither responsible or respectful, and we do not condone what they represent, Nissan said in a statement. We expect our dealers to establish advertising that is responsible and respectful and represents the best interest of the Nissan brand.

Japs aren’t taking any chances.
Plus they understand and respect the concept of HONOR.
Ford, Toyota, Nissan.
GM? Shove it. Chrysler? Shove it.
I have known some of these local car dealers...it is not unusual for them to just do what the ad guy says....the car dealer is not in the marketing biz, he is in the car biz....so they become pretty compliant. (Much like me when my mechanic says “X is broken, sff, you gotta spend this much to fix it...)
I am glad they’ve apologized....maybe they’ll be more circumspect.
Can they put this dealership on ICE?
That specific dealership would be off my car-shopping list, but the Nissan company did the right thing.
I just hope you aren’t talking about Washington or Oregon, they are getting a lot worse than California in a lot of ways.
Old enough to remember Reagan winning CA in 1984. It’s been slim picking since then though
¡Andale, Nissan! (And, they make great cars.)
Make sure to visit the service department.
Funny thing is that light colored flat thing he is working on with the welder is the gas tank.
Did any of your Nissans suffer from the “strawberry milkshake” issue? The transmission line ran through radiator and leaked. These turning coolant reddish and destroying both tranny and radiator. X-terra, Armada, Titan mostly effected.
No—Bought Sentras for my boys.
Did have the piston rings in one of them shatter and score the cylinder walls, though. Killed the compression and ruined the engine.
That the dealership thought (apparently) that Nissan corporate would be OK with their stunt tells me enough.
It is. I have personal experience. It is.
Wouldn't suprise me if some in the home office are suggesting the dealer come into the boardroom and cut off a finger to show loyalty and repentance.
