Ive put off writing about the Apple Watch until today because, quite frankly, I didnt know what I wanted to say. But last night it came to me The Apple Watch is the coolest gadget in the world that you dont need (and I say that with all due respect).
Ill spare you the product details (visit www.apple.com/watch) so I can spend the rest of our brief time together explaining why I love Apple Watch, but dont think you (or anyone) really needs one (at least not yet).
First, some background: I have collected and worn reasonably priced wristwatches for at least 40 years. I own more than a dozen timepieces from everyday watches like the Casio G-Shocks I pick up on Ebay for well under $100 to my fanciest and most expensive one, a Tag-Heuer Chronograph I picked up in Hong Kong for around $800 back in the 1980s.

....and keeps on ticking
BTW is that a 50s version of a robot arm?
Casio rates it at 50 meters and I am sure they have tested at this depth.
Test that gay apple watch against an outboard motor. It will stop ticking
NOTE: Casio calls them Water Resistance
No, they actually pay more. Apple doesn't discount and the Chinese government adds value added taxes. For example the Apple Watch Edition that sells for $11,000 in the US is the equivalent of $20,000 in China, most of that is due to value added taxes. Other Apple products sell with a similar premium price because of the added taxes.
As for Susan Wagner exercising a buy order, she was brought on the Board of Directors on July 17, 2014. It's one year later and she probably was granted some one year stock warrants that she have wanted to wait to exercise until the quarterly reports were issued. I suspect she waited until the market peaked to exercise the buy.
If you put it in a sealed plastic baggie like they did that Timex, probably. . . They were not proving the Timex's water resistance, only its shock resistance. The Apple Watch is solid state. No moving parts to speak of except for the Digital Crown. Not much to shock. (GRIN)
Uh, it doesn't tick to begin with. It's not mechanical. It's totally silent in its timekeeping functions.
Beats that crappy apple watch any day of the weak and twice on Tuesday.
duh....neither does my Casio
Who are you? And what have you done with DennisW? You are telling the truth in this post. That's something that DennisW never does in an Apple thread! You can't be DennisW. . . what have you done with his body?
True, but Garmin, Rolex and others sell swimmer’s watches and diver’s watches that are marketed as basically waterproof, as long as you don’t take them to crush depth.
That’s what I hope Apple does, make the Watch as waterproof as the Garmin Swim.
I’d love to keep track of my laps and splits.
Here’s hoping!
Ed
I saw that, Sword!
Some company even wrote an app for keeping track of laps and splits, but they said Apple wouldn’t allow an app that lets someone void their warranty.
I sure hope their next iteration comes waterproof like the Garmin Swim!
See ya’, sure appreciate the Apple/Mac pings!
Ed
Casio makes watches that are water resistance NOT water proof
Swordmaker, Apple actually warranties the Watch to three feet?
That’s about the depth my arms reach when I swim laps!
Thanks,
Ed
I don’t think that’s true with Garmin and other diving and swimming watches.
I think they all say you can dive or swim with them.
Ed
I saw that, interesting!
Ed
Buffoon, I have owned many Casios and not have had water get into them. Clown, you don’t have a Casio and don’t know what you are talking about.
Casios are waterproof as advertised BUT this applies to the seating of the original gasket. Once you get the battery replaced, dislodging the gasket, then you might get water in it. But now with many Casio watches having a ten year battery knife this is a non-issue. Casio is way ahead of those lethargic clowns in Cupertino. Once Jobs died they starting slacking off.
They only performed well under Massa Jobs the plantation overseer with his hand firmly on the whip. Now the only whipping going on is by Tim Cooks boyfriend
