I want to know what Freepers think about this man, his book and his explanation for WWI, The election of O as a brand rather than a man... and of course, 9/11 - as a manipulation, like Pearl Harbor, and the Committee for Public INformation
am I in trouble for this post?

We mistook style and ethnicity - an advertising tactic pioneered by Calvin Klein and Benetton - for progressive politics and genuine change. What you mean "we", white man?

Yes, Obama is a brand. As a man he is a big nothing, but as a symbol he is a blank canvas upon which the US Liberal Democrat Union Member Media from New York and Los Angeles painted a "Savior."
I was pushing our party to do something similar in 1996 because I recognized back then that the same dynamics that allowed Obama to succeed could have been made to work for us. We should have done it first.

Sounds like buyer’s remorse. A Lib disappointed that he bit on slick packaging and The One failed to deliver on his dreams for Socialist Utopia.

Chris Hedges is very far to the left. Read his wikipedia bio. He sued Obama to close Guantanamo. He supported the Green Party candidate. He compared Israel to ISIS. He compared the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to Fox News (which would be cool if it were true, but was probably meant as an insult). He got arrested with occupy Wall Street.
Hedges is right about 2008 being a triumph of advertising and media manipulation. But is there really anything new about that? You'd have to have expected something more from Obama to be that disappointed, and I don't think many of us did.

Chris Hedges is a 3/4 decent journalist.
At least he “gets it” much more than most journalists. He sees bigger pictures.
He is right about style over substance.
Where he gets is wrong is he doesn’t acknowledge that there are people in the country who are aware of this and have been aware of this for a long long time. He doesn’t acknowledge that there are sincere people (on the right) who have legitimate criticisms of “progressive” politics.
Granted the left/right paradigm is not really valid, and I think Hedges gets that, but again he’s not really willing to go all the way and acknowledge that “the way things should be” is utopian on both sides.

Hedges is a far-left, America-hating jerk who can’t be taken seriously as an authority on anything. He was the clown booed off the podium while giving an anti-American rant during a graduation ceremony at an Illinois college about ten years ago.

Hedges is an advocate of the false gospel of "social justice". Social Justice is a devious method of shaming people into acceptance of the basic tenets of Socialism by putting a smiley face on the iron fist of Marxism.
He is either a fool or just one more evil Marxist. We know our government is corrupt. Hedges, like Van Jones or a host of other hard-line Leftists, thinks the solution is MORE Marxism, not less.
Believe me, this evil man would be all in favor of one-world government just like the elitists he decries.
