Full Title: Army Ranger who shot dead NFL hero Pat Tillman in friendly fire reveals the guilt he still suffers and how PTSD from the accident ruined his career, marriage and health
A former Army Ranger who fears he fired the fatal round that killed NFL star Pat Tillman in Afghanistan has spoken out.
Steven Elliott, 34, told the story of the moment Tillman was killed by friendly fire on April 22, 2004 when his regiment was ambushed.
Elliott and other Rangers fired shots because they believed 27-year-old Tillman, who gave up a $3.6million football contract to serve his country in the aftermath of 9/11, was a Taliban insurgent.
Elliott, a Kansas native and Oral Roberts University graduate who was on patrol with Tillman when he died 11 years ago, spoke in front of the congregation at Redeemer Covenant Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Sunday.

In a war 40+ years ago I saw how quickly things can go horribly wrong, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.
You combat vets here have seen it too.
I'm glad he's talking about it now, it's good therapy.

He needs to find God’s Mercy.once again.
My son and another Marine manning a roadblock in Ramadi opened fire on civilians driving a white pickup toward them. Badly wounded the civilians. Seven years later it still haunts him son. I pray for this young man. We in Arizona miss our Pat. This young man deserves relief from his horror.
Perhaps the brass of our armed forces will stop using elite units on salvage ops for broken down transportation vehicles.
This shooting of dead people has got to stop. It’s a waste of ammo.
I agree.
The only friend I lost to Vietnam was killed by a new sentry when coming back from a patrol. I know how hard it was on his parents to not only lose a son but in such a tragic way.
