Well said. Standing Armies are anathema to republics.
Very huge difference in a service member going down the street with a loaded M-16 and one given a sidearm for self protection. They should have that right to self defense as much as you or me. A M-16 can be fully automatic. A side arm even military issue are one with calibers anyone can purchase. Inside a military facility at least one m 16 at a recruiting office should be accessible to authorized NCO as well for use to defend that facility. That basic concept is taught in Basic Training and falls under The General Orders.
But in today's times we have Idiots for policy makers like a Jack Ass sending National Guards to the border with M 16 and no rounds.
