When Jimmy Fallon abruptly canceled his last new Tonight Show episode before a two-week break last month due to an unexplained injury to his hand, details were sketchy at first.

Well, last night, he returned to the show with his left hand in a cast and spent several minutes telling his audience exactly how close he came to losing his finger after he tripped and fell on a rug in his home and caught his wedding ring on the counter as he went down.

Whatever you do, don’t Google “ring avulsion.”

Yep,I remember a guy I was working with slipped off a ladder, grabbed a piece of steel, got his ring caught on a pipe hanger and it pealed his finger like a Banana. Took off my ring that day and never wore one after that.

I served on a carrier in Catapults (V-2). Early on, I watched a shipmate jump down into the catwalk just before an aircraft was launched. ....His ring caught on the deck edge, so he left his finger and ring on the flight deck.

I married a year or so later and wife didn’t like that I wouldn’t wear the ring 24/7. After active duty, I had some jobs running engine lathes, so no ring then either.
