While “The Hateful Eight” nearly never saw the light of day after the script was leaked in January 2014, the film is now rounding into shape for a Christmas 2015 release. Quentin Tarantino and much of the cast -- including Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Roth, Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Dern -- descended on Comic-Con Saturday (July 11) to tease the flick and announce that legendary composer Ennio Morricone will score the film.

What a wonderful addition to a genius crew.

Between Tarantino and the Cohen Brothers we live in a new Golden Age of film.

Morricone is just icing on the cake.

Try this one with Dern if you get a chance.

Ennio Morricone is a genius at what he does. His ability to come up with the perfect score for whatever film he’s working on is amazing. I’ve always been especially impressed with his work on Once Upon a Time in The West, as he did that one with almost zero budget and still turned out an amazing final product.

The only Morricone score I don’t care for all that much is the one he did for the 1987 version of The Untouchables. It’s dated compared to his other works, sounding very late 80’s, rather than timeless (too much synth). And some of the scenes don’t match up all that well with the music, IMHO. It’s a good score, but not what I’d expect from a master of the craft, if that makes sense.

Just MHO, of course.

His music for “ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA” may be the best of all time IMO

I believe he did some of the score for American Sniper.

Clint Eastwood, himself a musician, did also..!
