I was having Dinner on Mt. Tom Yesterday and was told that it was the anniversary of a terrible crash on the mountain, I had never heard of it so I looked it up and found this article. Very sad, many of those killed were Vets from the war in Europe on their way home.

Rest In Peace, they were from a wide-array of States. It makes me think of another air disaster. Very moving memorial.

I may be skimming over it, but I don't spot any navy folks. Air Corp (looks like crew, or mostly crew), Coast Guard, Public Health Service and perhaps a civilian. Who was the navy guy?

Was the USPHS part of the Navy, I think they wore naval uniforms.

No, while it grew out of the needs of the navy, by World War II it was independent.

You are correct, however, that the uniforms are generally based on Navy uniforms, and the ranks correspond.

All the time I skied at Mount Tom, I never knew about it. If I did, I’d have prayed for the people lost....

I have driven by Mt. Tom hundreds of times over the years and have been on the mountain dozens of times and never heard of it either. It just came up in a conversation about Westover AFB and my interest was piqued.
