As with all analyst reports though, we should take this with a pinch of salt, as IDC has widely different results, which suggest that Apple PC sales actually grew by more than 16 per cent, globally, in the last year.
I'd say about a 100 LB block of salt. That's an 18.6% swing of a difference between Gartner's reduction of 2.5% in quarterly Mac sales YOY to IDC's growth of 16.1% YOY. One of these company has really blown it on the guesstimates. . . and that's all they are: Guesstimates. They don't have access to Apple's sales records at all.
This is why I do not believe any of these figures from Gartner or IDC and they are usually wildly out of whack. . . and usually too LOW when Apple announces the actual sales figures a few weeks later. Apple will be stating those figures on July 21st. Then we will know just exactly how many Macs were sold world-wide.

Now we have a clash of the dueling prognosticators. . . WHEE! Gartner has come out with their Guesstimates of last quarter's computer market. Whaddaya know. It doesn't agree with IDC's! Not by a long shot. Gartner says that Apple's Mac sales declined Year over Year when compared to the same quarter by 2.5%, but Apple still gained Market Share in the overall scheme of things because the PC market went down faster. IDC, however, agrees that the overall market did indeed go down, but says that Apple went sold MORE Macs Year over Year when compared to the same quarter by 16.1% and gained even MORE market share for the same reason. Who's right? Neither. Because they are both GUESSING! PING!

I can say it is the first time in 4 years that I don’t have an iphone. Just not a Tim Cook fan, so I thought I would try something new.

This is because overall the PC industry contracted between this time last year and now, with a 5.8 percent dip in overall sales. Our miraculous economic recovery.
