Lost phone service for days and internet has not returned for a month now. It's area wide and I believe it was a cyber attack.
I now have a new internet provider that does not provide an e-mail address.
Recommendations & reviews from Freepers for an e-mail service would be appreciated.

I have had Yahoo since 1998 and have never had a problem. I do get tons of political ads. Some I read and others seem to be duplicates. The rest are deleted unless it is interesting. I hardly ever get real emails there since I do that on Facebook.

The free email options are so convenient you can download an APP for your smart phone for mail.com or set up hotmail.com as POP3 email so your smart phone downloads the email as though it was your own domain.
A unique domain name requires the time & cost to register and to renew the domain every so many years. If you build out the site you’ll also pay a reseller for space on a shared server.
And unless you choose to seek privacy from a “WHOIS” search, anyone can use “whois” to see the personal information you used to register the domain. This includes your address (unless you pay for a P.O. box), city, state, zipcode & phone number.
I was with GoDaddy for years. They used to send coupon codes around renewal time, but not anymore. Now they give promotional codes only for new purchases. I called them and told them I was unhappy with the fact that their prices had gone up and that they didn't offer me any renewal discounts (I own 10 domains) -- and they gave me some measly discount. So I said goodbye.

PS: No, I don't work for NameSilo or get a commission. I just got tired of being overcharged by GoDaddy for so many years.

Easy to configure. They do it all for you.
Buy a domain by searching first at say google. Never at the domain provider as they may buy it first then offer to sell it to you at a big markup. I bought several at godaddy.com
There are others to choose but their introductory prices are low. They can also host the site but I found Lunarpages prices to be lower. Cost is around $10 for a name a year.

I use Lunarpages http://www.lunarpages.com as the host and pay $8.95 a month, billed yearly.

I have a control panel (from Lunarpages) where I create my own email addresses. I then use Thunderbird email program and add in the settings: Setting Up Your POP or IMAP Email Address with Mozilla Thunderbird

To upload files to, you can use the free FTP plugin called FireFTP from Firefox. You can go to the FTP options to have it open in separate window.
Hostname: yourdomain.com
(Change to your domain or server name.
Username: your account username
Password: your account password
Passive FTP: OFF for Windows accounts
Save all settings on paper for future reinstalls.
If you want a free internet-based email, I have used the Mail.com service for years. It works very well. They offer a premium service which I tried but I don’t think its worth the added services it brings. You can try it and opt out without a penalty.
Probably the nicest thing about it is the name. It’s so simple when telling someone your email is ‘myname”@mail.com
