Need new E-mail provider
Vanity

Posted on 07/10/2015 9:08:47 AM PDT by Cold Heart

Lost phone service for days and internet has not returned for a month now. It's area wide and I believe it was a cyber attack.

I now have a new internet provider that does not provide an e-mail address.

Recommendations & reviews from Freepers for an e-mail service would be appreciated.

Oh and I am now logged on:)

E-mail at a website preferable to internet provider is what the installer said also.

I have a microwave antenna on my roof now. Cost is double what Century Link was but much faster and much more reliable.

You need your own servers in your basement in case you may ever want to burn it.

Even though we have Verizon internet, I’ve never used the verizon email. We use a free service called juno.com

It’s easy to set up and virtually no spam has gotten past them

Been with them for about 15 years

Sounds interesting - I’ll have to check it out.

Since it’s encrypted is it slower?

I use outlook.com and love it. I get 30 gigs of cloud storage free. The cloud based office is a nice bonus and it’s super easy to sync on your phone.

If at some point you want to upgrade, you can do hosted exchange through them for $5 a month and you can name your email after your domain and you get more cloud storage, access to office 365.

I second Cold Heart's advice. For the cost of registering your domain and paying a small hosting fee, you can have all the email addresses you'd like -- even if you never ever plan to build a website.

I switched registration from GoDaddy to NameSilo -- MUCH cheaper, and the privacy option is included for free.

I use HostGator for my domain hosting. There are always coupons around for great deals for first-time customers.

And if you are entrepreneurial, you can sell email mailboxes to your friends and family for some ridiculous amount like $5 a year, and completely recoup your own costs.

“Get your own domain and email.”

My suggestion too. I have done that. I own a couple domains and have emails for my wife and I set up in those domains. I have mine hosted on HostGator.

As long as I am where I can get internet service (WiFi) I can check email. Anywhere in the world. One of my emails is available on my phone.

I would not go back.

“Email at a website is preferable to one at Comcast or other such because you don’t lose it when your service goes away or you go to another one.”

Right, I’ve been trying to tell hubby that FOR YEARS.

My local ISP quit providing private emails. I switched to Outlook.com and have had no problem. Plus you get 15G of online storage, ability to share files and a Calendar and online Office products(Word/Excel/Etc)

Oops, forgot to mention Canada. Also free, but you must login every 3 weeks to keep the account current. Also PGP encryption used.

How about setting up your own, such as me@coldheartfreeper.com? Hostgator, GoDaddy and others offer cheap packages that provide you with your own email domain and several mailboxes. My $10/month package includes a website and 100 mailboxes; other packages can be had for as little as $30/year. Best thing about it is that because you own the domain, you can set up your addy to just about anything you want (mine is my initials).

In my experience godaddy is far easier to work with if you need to talk with them for some reason.

Agree 100%- I needed phone support a few times while migrating my domain from Netfirms and they were awesome. Only once did my call not directly to a human, and on that occasion I got a callback within ten minutes. I also found that their techs are quite savvy- they evidently don't consider the help desk to be an entry-level job.
