The Australian Defence Force (ADF) will begin taking delivery in 2016 of about 30,000 new EF88 Austeyr 5.56 mm rifles under an AUD100 million (USD75 million) contract to be signed later this month, a Department of Defence (DoD) spokesman confirmed to IHS Jane's on 7 July.

The contract, to be signed with Thales Australia, follows second pass approval announced on 6 July by Defence Minister Kevin Andrews for expenditure of AUD467 million under Project Land 125 Phase 5C.

Did you mean sick or slick?

Looks like the Steyr AUG which is early 1980’s.

Not too sure about bullpups.

I don’t like bullpups. Weapon manipulation isn’t as natural, and too much happening closer to vital areas. That’s just my opinion though.

I though bullpups were just baby bulldogs?

Slightly off-topic, but will the humaniacts at PETA protest such guns since they have connotations to puppies?

As a lefty, bullpups tend to eject right near my face.

Last time brass hit my in the lip and split it.

When it comes to bullpup designs, just because they can, doesn’t mean they should.

It's a nice platform for your grenade launcher.

Australia has been using the Steyr AUG for a long time now

The new EF88 is an AusSteyr with a *Picatinny* scope rail, and, hopefully, made of an improved plastic compound that's less resistant to melting after eight magazines worth.

Oh, and the new gat is or can be moulded in either desert tan or the Australian *AusCam* camouflage pattern, known to the Diggers as *Spotty Dots.*

To be fair: the thing really is set up for improved interfacing with current electronics and optical equipment...which may mean it'll become obsolete in about 18 months.
