I wasn't aware of it until just before it was due to start up again.

There are circuit breakers in the market if it drops too far too fast. Google market Rule 80B and could add circuit breakers, then read the rules for the shutdown triggers. Some seasoned traders told me about it a couple years ago.

Your 700 points down could have been one of the percent qualifiers.

I don't know why the spokespeople aren't mentioning that instead of a "technical glitch". It could have been a glitch or a hack.

One person (trader) shut down the market a few years back. Google flash crash 2015 for specifics on that.

Maybe they know but are playing it safe because they didn't want a panic. It closed down about 270 which isn't good but not earthshaking.

That’s cool, big daddy. I notice that you’re sitting on quite a heap. Should I be expecting a delivery of cash or does the Vatican do electronic transfers?

Sell some of them off in London and New York, give the proceeds to the poor.

That seems to be in line with the pope’s philosophy.

Are all of those treasures on display for the public to enjoy? I’m not so sure, there are so many of them.

Somewhere, I forget exactly where, someone said that many of the great rarities in the Vatican Library are off limits to the general public. Again, this seems to be in conflict with the pope’s belief in equality for all.

'As stewards of these riches which we have received, we have an obligation toward society as a whole and toward future generations,' Francis said.

In a free rational society, society is the means to the ends of individuals, not individuals are the means to the ends of society. Society benefits individuals by providing knowledge and material goods and services.

I wonder if the Pope understands that a huge amount of the Vatican’s funding comes from wealthy people. So he wants to help implement communism? This will have a huge impact on funds going into the Vatican.

Zipper,

Being a Protestant, I’m going to defend the Catholics regarding Papal Infallibility: You mis-understand it’s limited meaning. And the Pope’s recent ecology letter does NOT fall into the category of being ‘infallible.”

I am copying the following from this website: http://www.catholicfaithandreason.org/papal-infallibility.html

What is the gift of infallibility?

The dogma of infallibility was formally proclaimed at the First Vatican Council in 1870. There are several requirements for a dogmatic, papal infallible pronouncement: (1) The pronouncement must be made by the lawful successor to Peter. (2) The subject matter must be in the area of faith and morals. (3) The pope must be speaking ex cathedra, that is from the very seat and office of Peter

That's interesting. It would make sense for a Pope to SHUT UP about issues in which he's not infallible. Otherwise, he loses credibility in issues where he is infallible. You'd think.

Like maybe he should talk about stuff like slaughtering Christians and other minorities. You'd think there'd be a message from a greater source about that one.

Though Christ never tried to get Emperor Tiberius to force his prescription on everybody.

That the point.. its your willing sacrifice not you imposing it on others or having it imposed on other

Christ die, he sacrifice himself.. he did not order other to do it for him....Islam has a false teaching that Jesus sent a standing for him on the cross.. think of that lie.. Christ is not Christ if he did not willing do the sacrifice..and Chris has no claim to Glory if he sent someone else to the cross.

Pilate order Jesus to the cross.... do we give Pilate the praise as our savior because he sacrifice Jesus?

Its what you willing do.. not ordering a stand in for you..not sending some one else.....the left is not Jesus...the left is Pilate

..i will give.. even die .. for my fellow man... but will not send or order some one else to do it and try to claim credit or praise for sending another.. that what the left does acting like Pilate...

your acts must be your acts.... as a free man ....to do

....love is a free willing act.. add force and its rape.. send other my force and your a pimp

...these distinctions are lost on the left and socialist... you can freely give everything you have today no one else needed.. no government needed..and its not socialism ......

socialism is taking from others .its being Pilate

If it has just been the NYSE..that would have been one thing ut with the addition of the WSJ..lil incident..topped off by the United Airlines incident..I smell intereference.

It would not surprise me terribly if it were discovered that it wasnt the chicoms afteral. Given the state of the markets in China.and the obama regimes love of both crisis and manipulation...ot would surprise me even less if they were involved.

When you elevate a person, or even the pronouncement of a person to the point of "infallibility" then when they go off-script you are bound to endorse their views. History is replete with papal pronouncements that eviscerate the doctrine of infallibility. The problem won't go away by claiming nebulous rules to explain "limited meaning" to infallibility. It didn't start with this pope. The problem isn't outsiders' misunderstanding of the "limited meaning" of papal infallibility, the problem is the false dogma of infallibility itself, that has been discredited so many times by this pope and other popes.

papal infallibility means that the pope makes, or should make, no mistakes in matters concerning the doctrine of the Catholic Church. The Council even went so far as to state that “should anyone, which God forbid, have the temerity to reject this definition [of papal infallibility—MP] of ours: let him be anathema [condemned—MP]” (“First Dogmatic...,” 1870, 4.9).

For more than a century, this dogma has plagued many Catholics who have worked feverishly to try to harmonize the nature of the “infallible” dogma with the declarations, teachings, and revelations of the popes who lived before and after its establishment. After all, it is claimed that the Catholic Church does not create new dogmas; rather, it proposes eternal truths already contained in the “deposit of faith” (see “Roman Catholic...,” 1892, 8:772; Dixon, 1852, p. 197). Therefore, it could be said that, before the 19th century, every pope has been subject to “infallibility” without knowing it.

unfortunately I think Protestants, especially those who don’t care for Roman Catholicism, have latched on to and give much more credence and faith to ‘papal infallibility’ than actual Catholics do. It is a convenient whip to use to attack, especially on an easily misunderstood doctrine.

Someone tonight on one of my programs suggested that when the market went down, traders flocked to WSJ for news which would be logical.

Yes, it could very well be interference. Sometimes they are never sure, and if they are, they might not inform us.

These are interesting times. But if it was a probe, hack especially grounding all United flights, that's pretty scary. The market can always have dire consequences. Who knows if it will recover tomorrow?

From one glitch to the next. Too many compromises lately.
