(CNN)Stuffed beside the terrible birthday gift your grandma mailed was always the one redemption: Bubble Wrap. That instantly amusing piece of packaging is losing its pop -- literally.

Sealed Air, the company that created the material in 1960, introduced a version that will no longer pop, according to the Wall Street Journal. Instead, air will shift in columns of bubbles.

Sealed Air quelled pop-lovers' concerns, tweeting that it will continue to make the traditional version. Other packaging companies produce similar products as well.

Whew! I was worried for a moment.

Let me guess ....

The company received one letter that stated the sound offended them, so they hit the drawing boards and came up with this ecological idea ....no more wasted air ... it's now recycled within itself

It’s a “trigger” sound that sends terrified snowflakes to their safe space cuddle puddle. It’s for the children you know.

Sealed Air, the company that created the material in 1960, introduced a version that will no longer pop...

Why? How could there be any demand for such a product?

What kind of dour, humorless Scrooge-Grinch opposes poppable bubble wrap?

One place I worked at, it was fun to lay a sheet of bubblewrap down and run over it with my forklift. Gave the bored production workers a laugh.

Paint the bubble wrap red, stencil Tension Sheet and head to the patent office.

As a person that ships a lot, I really dont like the “old” bubble wrap that much. It seems flimsy and not as firm as larger air bags or more firmly-made modern wraps.

I liked playing with it myself as a kid, but I wouldn’t trust it with stuff I need to arrive in one piece.

I used to have a flash program of popping bubble wrap on an old Windows 95 machine.

Well what do you know, it still exists!

Pop-less bubble wrap is pure Communism. Don’t even start me on the metric system.

Obama will call for a ban on the old bubblewrap after the “non-shooting” today at the Washington Navy Yard. (Or at least a three day waiting period to pop it.)
