I have one cat who loves to be “petted” like a bongo drum. Go figure.

I can vouch for the “erogenous zone” at the base of the tail. It creates a love/hate relationship really quickly.

Anyone who has ever served on the staff of a cat can tell you this without a scientific study.

(The researchers did not attempt to pet the cats on their bellies, presumably because they didnt want to be maimed.)My girlfriend's noisy Siamese cat loves having his belly scratched. He stands paralyzed while I do it. Sometimes he flops down on his back, and if I stop scratching his belly, he unsheathes his claws and literally forces my hand back into scratching position.
But then again, in my experience, Siamese cats love to be roughly manhandled.

And this will work, as long as your cat doesn’t find out about it.

One of our ‘board of directors’ enjoys being pet, the other only occasionally - typically followed by a ‘HISSSSS.’
She’s an odd one.

I contest the results of this study. My cats love to be petted everywhere and anywhere. Head, back, sides, base of tail, and sometimes their tummy. My little cat has the cutest particolor paw pads, and is very good natured about me playing “pushbutton paws”with them. It is also true that they initiate getting petted whenever they can catch me immobile, such as trying to get work done on the computer, reading, trying to sleep, trying to prepare food in the kitchen, just about all the time. Love sponges!
