A Jersey City man accidentally set himself on fire on Thursday when he was trying to burn ants, police said.
The 46-year-old victim was igniting gas in an alleyway on Bayview Avenue near Martin Luther King Drive at around 5 p.m. when the gas caused a flashback, police said.
The man suffered second degree burns to his lower arms, according to authorities.

Hell, I do crazier stuff than this all the time, 2nd degree burns hardly rate a news article.
That’s why you use diesel to burn pesky critters up. Had a hornets nest on a old shed we were going to demo, no exposure issues. Stuffed some diesel stuffed rags around the next at night and lit them using a long stick. Waited a minute or two and doused it with a couple garden hoses. Only used 100% organic materials to do it. ;)
I looked up online and saw where I could mix peanut butter, sugar, and borax. I can't get to the store for awhile so asked my daughter to ask for some boric acid at the drug store. They said they didn't have any. Huh?
So I remembered 20 mule team borax (powder) in the detergent aisle and will see if they have any because I think these ants are here to stay for the summer.
I think they were dropped from the sky by a chem trail plane lol. I saw a video where spiders fell from the sky.
Oh I've got mice again. The cat had one the other night. Made him spit it out so I put it out on the front porch. The raccoon must have gotten it. Cleaned out my silverware drawer, wiped with bleach. More turds. Damn. I picked them out but leave the drawers open at night so the cat can, hopefully, get it/them. I really don't like to kill them but I can't have them messing in my kitchen stuff.
But what ratio? If you put in too much borax the ants in the colony will smell it and not give it to the queen.
damn fire ants!!
I had a half-acre lot and the back 25% was loaded with fire ants that had mounds 1-2 feet high. I always was getting stung by the ants when using my line trimmer back there.
About every two weeks I would take an old broom stick and open up the hole, put in a large plastic funnel and pour gasoline in the mound. I’d wait about 10 minutes to allow the gas and fumes to spread through the huge network of tunnels the ants build below ground. ......Then, I’d take a box of kitchen matches out there and toss lit matches into a couple of the holes.
There would be flames shooting out of mounds that I hadn’t even dosed! Did this throughout one Summer and most of the ants had moved on... or died. Amdro was useless.
Get out the D-con, Aliska and put it where the pets can’t get to it. Rodents are crapping on your silverware.
I kept the sink doors open all winter because that corner of the house gets very cold (an expensive problem needs fixed). I think we may have had only one during the winter, and the cat got that one. Thanks.
It might be more expensive but since it involves fire it is, by definition, more fun. :-)
Reminds me of the genius several years ago with mice entering the walls of his house. He found their outdoor nest and set it afire, whereupon the burning mice ran into his house walls and burned down his house. The firemen got quite a kick out of his explanation.
