I personally do not care about the Confederate flag, one way or another. I'm from Michigan, but I lived in Charleston for a few years while in the Navy. I'm a black person, and make a point of trying to see the good in all of us, or sometimes acknowledging the danger in all of us. I was always treated well, meaning nothing special. I know both sides of the civil war had their causes and will always have their histories, whether or not that history is properly studied, it will remain as fact and artifact.
I think the majority of reactionary American people were thrown off course by the dramatic (unbidden) testimony of the surviving families. It was shocking to hear a grieving daughter say "I forgive you, Dylann Roof" . What's going on? No buildings have been blown up, no cars have yet been torched! Where are the angry marches? Many have been left scrambling, flailing about, looking to affix blame, looking to dictate acceptable solutions. Some have chosen this flag and all it is said to represent to serve as a symbol of all that is wrong in the Southern states, if not all the states. Many seek cleansing from the sin of racism by disavowing this flag.
Meanwhile, no presidential candidate is speaking about other matters of importance. No one has recently spoken about ISIS, which continues, to torture and persecute Christians. No one speaks of the corrosive malignancy known as Common Core, how it ruins or punishes a child's confidence in linear logic. No one speaks of how our college campuses are becoming hotbeds for producing students who are weak-willed, unable to withstand opposing views without using sophomoric tactics.
No one speaks what must be done to work with the oncoming age of robotics. Some manufacturers see it, and have issued veiled warnings, people like Steve Wozniak, or Elon Musk, but there is no serious national discussion on what is going to happen to the thousands of people about to be displaced by either robots or cheaper foreign workers. No discussion on what can be done about it other than just waiting. No one speaks of a small segment of our young people who where raised without God, and training to be suspicious of any positive mention of God in public discussion. Many of these young people have few coping skills when things appear to be going wrong. They have placed all their trust in man. Hopefully, later this summer, our candidates will get back to discussion topics that truly effect us day to day.

Your new flag design with a Confederate Flag, is bound to set some hearts aflutter- with panic. I say, take a breath, don’t panic.
You know the old saying; Be careful what you wish for. Some Seattle area restaurants learned that lesson just this spring.
I was watching and reading news all day just saying to myself “we are almost 20trillion in debt and communists are all over the place and this is what is the topic of the day”
Face palmed a lot today.
BTW, how is that effort going to ban the Washington "Redskins?"
Anything to keep the government and culture on the left-wing track. Lies and subterfuge (and red herrings) from the usual suspects.
Thank you for your service and God Bless you for being a black person who can see past the BS. You are the answer to our country’s “race problem”. No wound will heal when it is constantly irritated. I used to love Ken Hamblin. Booker T Washington said all this 100 years ago. Too few listened.
And as for “shocking”, it was. I wasn’t mentally ready when I heard the Singleton boy on the radio. Things got real blurry. I have to say Christian forgiveness is what FOLLOWS repentance and according to my understanding when the inverse happens the repentance may never come but Thank God those folks could do that. I doubt the country could take another Ferguson or Baltimore.
I served for years, side by side, with many black officers, most of the NCOs I served with we’re black. They were all good men. None of us had a racial problem, at least that I ever saw. Yet we took a day off every year for “racial sensitivity”. My last year I just couldn’t take it anymore and at the end of the day I stood up and asked, “When can we stop it?”I called on a few and asked, “You know me, we work together every day. We don’t have a problem. Why do we have to do this every year? When can we just let it go? We don’t make a big deal out of green eyes or left handed ness. Why do we keep pushing on this? What will it take to just let it go?”. It has to be people like you. I can’t let go of something I have never had. God Bless you.
There is such a desperation among the Democrats and the media that they must not just interest, but INFLAME, the black community in advance of the coming election.
If I was a law-abiding black person in America right now, I would feel beyond outraged at being used this way.
Just because the media doesn’t report it doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened.
If English is your native tongue you need to brush up your writing skills to improve readability and clarity
In my humble opinion, this could have become a diversionary topic, so it is best what the GOP is doing — removing the diversion to focus on real issues
Thank you for your post. I had no trouble with the readability or clarity. I hope many like you will continue to speak out.
I am always open to learning and in this case, re-learning. Please feel free to point out how this piece could have been more cohesive or clear. I have to keep in mind the differences between creating internal monologue (private diary) and presenting an idea for dialogue (opinion piece).
I recall at least 10 years ago a “sensitivity training” session where people were encouraged to whine to the group. I sat next to an Oriental (’scuse me, Asian) woman who complained about the fact that “everyone assumed because I’m Chinese (or Japanese, can’t remember) that I’m smart. Why would they assume that?”
I thought she must be off her rocker. It must be horrible going through life with people assuming really positive things about you before you even open your mouth. /sarc
So English is your native tongue?
