"...The stories sucked. The morality was “make-believe.” The society was really racist, segregated, and our products pretty much sucked but it didn’t matter because the rest of the world was still digging themselves out of the rubble of WWII..."

I get it now.

But if you hate America so much, why are you on Freerepublic?

We tend to value those things that you disdain.

And actual racial hatred was far lower than what we have today, hands down.

I dont hate America. I love America.

I am on free republic because I enjoy conservative values and discussion.

It doesn’t mean that I think everything about America was the best, or is the best. We have done a lot of things wrong. We continue to do things wrong.

One of the conservative values that patriots should share is the elimination of blind loyalty to systems and organizations that might have been wonderful at one time, but no longer are.

For example, our government is corrupt and ineffective. We should work to change that to represent the morals and cultural values of the people. That isn’t happening.

Our manufacturing is just about gone. But, if you look objectively at the mistakes we made back in the times you laud, you can see the beginning of our decline. Shoddy quality, the reliance on big labor, and the selling out of our trade values.

Our military, once held in awe around the world for their intentional policy of “win and go home” got swept up in the “military industrial complex.” Instead of our manufacturing base being used to produce cars, technology, and things for our own betterment, we built planes, missiles, and other things we did not need, from money we did not have, to sell to countries that would ultimately use them against us.

And once the “cold war” stopped, we continued to maintain a military policy that did not change with the times.

Do not get me wrong: I am for a strong defense. I love the military commitment and those who serve. What I don’t like is how the government has used those men and material.

I love God. I am a moral person. But, I also remember a lot of immorality back in those days as well. I recall no one “talking about” the crap that went on in homes, offices, and parishes.

Do I like the escapism, drug and thug culture of today? Of course not. I think the government has done everything it could to funnel every dime it could to the Industrial Poor Economy—those are the folks who make money through the Agencies who are supposed to be giving people a hand up. If you think the lazy poor people make money for nothing, take a look at the grants, government programs, and businesses that thrive like a sucker fish off the body of America.

No, I love America. I think America can have some great days ahead. I think fiscal conservatism is long overdue. But we cannot do that without cutting military budgets, social programs, and farm subsidies. We all need to back away from the teat. That that will hurt everyone.

But no one wants to hear that either.

I guess you can say I am ranting. But you are the one that suggested I disdain what you look back and long for. I simply disagree that “those were the days.”

I think tomorrow are the “days” for America. And if more people could focus on that; work towards that; and make the necessary changes in their personal and professional lives, we could make it work.

But it won’t happen.
