A little factoid I don’t often get to share. I read it in a Kurt Vonnegut novel years ago. The little dimples on a strawberry are called “drupelets”.

Is this evidence of the decline of the West, or just old-fashioned thievery?

True. "drupelet" |ˈdro͞oplit| nounBotany: any of the small individual drupes forming a fleshy aggregate fruit such as a blackberry or raspberry. Oxnard has tons of strawberries. Maybe I can send some to my brother in Upsala.

Thanks for the confirmation. These days I hesitate to look up stuff that I thought I once knew, because sometimes I come up empty.

I had great grandparents from Skåne. Me, too!
In fact, our family's name was Skånes.

I was going to research the story myself by visiting various strawberry farms in Sweden. I wanted an experienced broadcaster to accompany me so I said “Let me take Hugh Downs, cause I’m going to strawberry fields.”
