Disneys Tomorrowland may be bombing at the box office, but on the plus side, it could win a Cliffie.
The Cliffie awards go to films that exemplify cli-fi, or climate fiction, an emerging genre heating up this year as climate change themes seep from documentaries into big-budget Hollywood features.
That means cli-fi films such as Tomorrowland, which has tanked despite an A-list director in Brad Bird and huge star in George Clooney, could be just the tip of the iceberg.
The narrative for Hollywood is that global warming is a growing crisis, and its now set to permeate more and more of the pop culture, said Marc Morano, publisher of the website Climate Depot, which takes a skeptical view of doomsday climate change scenarios. Ive noticed that even in TV shows, there have been mentions of global warming.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa.........This guy is missing a few turnips.
"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." |
Well I thought it was quite good.
Is it two days before the day after tomorrow yet?
Ok, admittedly I don’t really keep up on movies too much but... Maybe part of the problem with Tomorrowland is this is literally the first I’ve heard of it. What a joke.
Tell you what. Saw that was in the drive-in and made sure I didn’t go to see it because he was in it. So hope my little boycott helped.
Bad enough it has Clooney — but I knew for sure to miss it when I heard the pitch...
“Have you ever wondered what would happen, if all the geniuses, the artists, the scientists, the smartest, most creative people in the world decided to actually change it?”
No, I don’t wonder. The idea that a bunch of pompous self-annointed technocrats “changing” the world to their vision is terrifying to anyone with a modicum of good sense.
Oh wow, you still have a drive-in; I haven’t been to one in years, fond memories though.
“Saw that was in the drive-in...”
Back in my younger days, I made sure I took my date to a boring movie at the local drive-in.
“97% of “climate scientists”
Make that: ... 97 % of climate “scienists”...
bump exactly
I thought it was already Next Week After Tomorrow
How big a carbon footprint did making this film make.
How many plane trips has Clooney been on in the last 30 years he has been an actor and traveling the world?
When will he sell his many homes and settle in just a small place as it is just him - I do not count the beard he “married”.
Dunno what this movie is, but I once laughed at a fat broad that almost ran me down. It pissed her off, and she came after me. Would have gunned me down like this fat broad if she could have.......
I didn’t realize she was a Lefty.
First, Clooney is NO H-U-G-E star.
Second, Tomorrowland is so ‘Yesterday’
Third, Walt Disney has to be turning in his grave. Disney has gone so far into the dark side they couldn’t survive without a service dog. Stick with the mice, Disney.
Oh yea brother!
