Poultry producer Foster Farms suspended five employees Wednesday after an animal-rights group released undercover video showing live birds being slammed upside-down into shackles, punched and plucked.
The suspended employees were either directly involved in the abuse or failed to report it to management, the California-based company said in a statement released through a public relations firm.
The behavior of the individuals in this video is inappropriate and counter to our stringent animal welfare standards, procedures and policies, the statement said.

Gee...The story didn’t give any names...
Wonder what they were????????
Taste Like Chicken!
Guess most everyone I knew when I was growing up would have been jailed and the keys thrown away. Every Sunday morning we would catch three chickens, grab them by their neck and swing them around until the head separated from the chicken, let the remains flop a while and then dunk it in a tub of boiling hot water so we could pluck them.
Wonder if these folks ever wondered where the saying “Running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off” came from.
I enjoy eating meat as part of my daily food. I know chickens, pigs, beef cows and other animals are raised and slaughtered in the steps which bring the meat to market. These are live animals, but also a commodity for sale.
I don’t want to hear how the killing and other steps are done as long as it’s done in an efficient way to get the meat to market as an affordable, sanitary and fresh product. I assume the raising and killing is done in a non brutal way as producers want the product to be of acceptable quality for sale.
The vegans keep turning out these videos to try to turn us into vegetarians, it won’t sway me.
My guess is wetbacks.
I’m willing to pay a little more for chickens that eat bugs.
I eat less and less meat; cannot stand the cruelty these animals are subjected to. Why is it considered necessary?
It’s nice to share your warm memories of abusing animals.
Its nice to share your warm memories of abusing animals.”
Happy to do it. But it wasn’t abuse and they weren’t animals, they were chickens raised for and destined to become Sunday dinner. We did have at least 10 kittens at any given time who, when they saw the cows headed for the barn for the morning milking, would line up for a squirt of fresh milk for their breakfast.
I don’t suppose you want to know how we killed and butchered hogs or beef cattle. Just how life was when you grew up on a farm. If we didn’t grow or raise it we didn’t eat.
“...would line up for a squirt of fresh milk for their breakfast.”
Wait - you’d grab their tits and YANK on them!!!???
Like I tell my kids, sausage is good - you just don’t want to see it made. Same with on a farm. Things aren’t cruel, but they are a lot different from everyday life in the suburbs.
(I bet you didn’t even bother to round up all the cows into the barn when it started to rain!)
We have a winner!! Add in a few vegans to the facility to do some high def killing and do all the filming, especially the up close, dying hen vids.
I've had laying hens and roaster hens as well as quite a few roosters for years. Have one in the back yard now. I even have a Silver Seabright hen in a cage in my bedroom. Had her as a pet for years. But I eat chicken often. And I eat more eggs than my doctor would recommend.
What I see in this video is more confirmation of why we need to remove and BAN these Mexican savages and the employers that hire them. They have no more regard for an American's life than they do one of these harmless chickens...
Slinging boxes of chicks onto a conveyor belt is both cruel and a destruction of the employers property. They are extremely fragile. That would be like throwing kittens out the back door to see if you can make them hit the fence.
I can agree and relate to all of that.
We are way down on our flock. We have 2 geese, 8 hens and 2 ducks. Most of our loss is due to predators. My doc wouldn’t like how many eggs I eat either. ;>)
Depredation and dead animals are a part of nature. What these Fu**s are doing is a good indicator of their sick character...
I grew up on a beef cattle ranch.
My Grandpa (who raised me) was the farm animal whisperer. He treated every single animal like a pet. He put himself in danger when floods came to see to their welfare.
When it came time to butcher a cow, it was done humanly. I know, because I was there when it was done.
There is no excuse to be mean to an animal. It just portrays the real character of the human.
I worked on a egg farm back in the late 1960s/early 1970s. We would separate the roosters from the hens and put the roosters in cages, fatten them up and on a Saturday morning cut off the heads, let them flop and bleed out, sometimes one would get up and run about a hundred feet or so. Then the dipping in the hot,hot water so the feathers came off easier. We would throw the rooster entrails into the coop and the chickens would eat them up like a NIght of The Living Dead movie. It was a farm and the animals were livestock.
My sister and her husband raised a pig named Wilbur. Her children would feed him scraps after supper. Eventually they slaughtered Wilbur and had him butchered, etc. I asked my five year old nephew if he was sad about what happened to Wilbur. His response - “Are you kidding? That was some of the best sausage I ever had”. LOL

Nor I; but we simply will not survive the kind of stupidity that is growing daily in this nation. This company will suffer because of some nut who thinks we should bring our cows into the living room when it’s too hot or cold. That kind of insanity is sinking businesses and driving them into bankruptcy. No one should intentionally prolong the death of any animal for fun, but some education is going to have to be dealt to these vapid persons who know nothing of the natural world except the inbred, hybrid monstrosities that they have produced for themselves in order that they might “identify” with the animal kingdom. To me, creating some little Frankenstein monstrosity that is confined to the inside and condemned to a life of boredom is more inhumane than killing an animal for food.
“There is no excuse to be mean to an animal. It just portrays the real character of the human.”
Totally agree, and kudos to your grandfather.
