Congress is expected to vote soon on whether to grant trade promotion authority (TPA) to President George W. Bush. Some critics of TPA have suggested that it might compromise national sovereignty and may actually be unconstitutional. But an important aspect of national sovereignty is the right to enter into international agreements and to participate in their enforcement. Being bound by agreements, such as mutual defense treaties, does not weaken sovereign power even though it obligates nations to abide by these pacts while they are a party to them.

Another aspect of sovereignty is the right of nations to withdraw from treaties that no longer suit them, although nations do not abandon most treaties over minor disagreements or unforeseen circumstances. America's NATO allies are now in a situation they never imagined: helping patrol our skies with NATO surveillance planes. Even as they shoulder this obligation, their assistance does not diminish their sovereignty or America's in any way. In fact, the NATO Treaty still makes each nation stronger than it would be by itself...

Yes, Obama is untrustworthy.

That is why we need Congress to give final up or down approval of any trade deal.

As you anti trade protectionists join hands with...

Richard Trumka
Elizabeth Warren
Hillary
Harry Reid
Nancy Pelosi
Dick Durbin
Chuck Schumer
Barbara Boxer

Isn’t name calling and guilt by association fun?

At the risk of making judgments, I am assuming that you are not a constitutional scholar?

That makes sense. Maybe we should have our representatives prove that they care about us by closing the borders and fixing all the other trade agreements that only made the sodomite, fascist elites richer while strangling the middle class. While they’re at it, change the TPA to require 60 votes for passage. Without these simple acts, we know the TPP will just be more of the same treason.

Yeah, with 60 votes. Insisting on a simple majority just shows that there is no intent for the TPA to receive any real scrutiny.

when it comes to price fixing and loophole against antitrust legislation, these trade treaties supposedly submitting to a single board is pretty much “awesome”

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

BTW, my understanding is that Hillary was for this crapola before she was against it.

trade Promotion Authority is surely Constitutional. What Hussein will do with Trade Promotion Authority is surely Un, Non, and Anti COnstitutinal.eIf Cruz and the other gopes are intent on this Trade Promotional Authority bil why cannot they wait for a president in a year and a half who will use it to do Constitutional and efficacious things. The fact that they are trying to push it through knowing what sort of things Hussein will do with it and they then have no effective say in what goes down indicates that the gopes are all hunky dory with the emerging dictatorship and totalitarian clampdown.

neither do I. AND NAFTA agreement led to our losing control over our commerce. Our oh so good neighbors complained that we shouldn’t be able to market beef as raised in America and butchered in America, otherwise known as American Beef. So NOW, thanks to the law suit where it was found we discriminated against Canada and Mexico, we are forced to buy beef not knowing where it came from. MAD COW DISEASE ANYONE???
I call that one single example a theft of American Sovereignty!

Which is how I feel too.

That is why Congress should get the final vote on approval

That’s it ! The Heritage Foundation just lost my vote ! Sarcasm Irony. THE CRUZ HATERS PROPAGANDIST REGURGITATORS HAVE BEEN OFFICALLY PUNKED BY BAGHDAD BOB CUTIS , A DEMOCRAT LIBERAL OPERATIVE ! YOU,VE BEEN PUNKED !

Thank you - just goes to show how naive and stupid so many "principled conservatives" can be. It seems like so many will dig as deep as they can to find a reason to trash Cruz - maybe they are afraid of the potential for our success.

At any rate, your post was right on.
