Yes, Doom is back. And now we know a lot more about what kind of Doom its going to be. If youre a fanatic for one of the most groundbreaking first-person shooter franchises in gaming history, youre going to be salivating.
Bethesda Softworks showed off a preview tonight of its latest Doom game in front of a crowd of fans and press in advance of the Electronic Entertainment Expo game trade show in Los Angeles. The first demo showed an entire level of fine work with a shotgun, fist, machine gun, and chainsaw. The crowd reacted with cheers with every bloody pulp. The final scene showed a demon ripping off the players arms and hitting him with them. We also saw Doom Snapmap, the modding tools for this new shooter.
Doom Snapmap is about players never running out of fun and imaginative gameplay, said Marty Stratton, executive producer at id Software.
... This game will move much faster (60 frames per second) than Doom 3. It will have melee combat in full 1080p high-definition. Youll be able to carry a bunch of huge weapons all at the same time. In the demo, the player ripped a demon in half, and then rip his arms off.

Ben, you play this game?
Also Fallout4 coming out, looks amazing!
No.
I keep waiting for a video game where the player travels to a world of art and beauty, and there meets interesting characters with which to discuss philosophy and literature.
Looks like it’s going to be a long wait.
I played that game back in the early 1990s, when very few people had home computers. At the time, it was mind-blowing. Kids today would laugh at the crudity, cheesiness and primitiveness of it.
Disgusting. What a world we’re going into.
A lot of FReepers play RPS games.
I do not — but it is a subject of interest for them.
bttt
If you can shoot the philosophers and artists you might have a profitable idea.
The state of artificial intelligence in video games is awesome. I don’t know when they’ll be able to produce artificial pedantry, though.
The graphics are amazing on this Doom.
I played Wolfie, and Doom back then. Apples and Oranges.
So true.....
While I don’t like the super violent ones, I do occasionally play 3d games. My favorite of all time is Deus Ex, which is a very open world game before the term existed. It had a plot to the story and gave you advice, but it was up to you how to get through the levels, and you could use a lot of creativity. The player could shoot characters, or knock them unconscious. I even played it all the way through the game just running away from people. That works too, except for two people out of hundreds that the story’s plot forces you to confront. But even then, you don’t have to kill them. It is more suspenseful to play like that than to go in guns blazing.
Looks like I will need a new computer next year, but that author apparently never played Doom 3. It did not have a simple story line. It had a brilliant story line. Amazing actually. Won’t ruin it for those of you who have never played, but man what a story line.
An elevated discussion with an AI character would require a program which could both understand our questions and formulate an appropriate and interesting response. And a link to the internet I’m guessing.
Having the character actually speak the dialog would be good rather than typed inquiries and responses.
Is that possible? It certainly would be cool.
I’ll look into that. Thanks!
M4L Game
At Least I have one Awesome thing to look forward too after tonight's Game of Thrones Episode >:(
