When Jessica Gutierrez was deployed to Afghanistan n 2010, she left Cookies Chanel with her sister in New Mexico, according to Missouri TV station KMBC.
While Gutierrez was gone, Cookies disappeared.
Gutierrez never thought she would see her pet again, she told the station.
But somehow, five years later and over a thousand miles away Cookies was discovered in San Diego, the station reported.
Gutierrez got her puppy micro-chipped on the day she adopted her, which enabled animal services workers in San Diego to reunite Cookies with her rightful owner, who was now living in Missouri

Doggie ping
I found a beautiful two-year-old female lab two years ago who luckily had a chip (the lost animals have a way of checking themselves in at my backdoor.) She had been stolen off her owner's front porch 20 miles away the year before. There was construction going on near his house on a public infrastructure project that crossed the county. Curiously when I found the dog the project had made its across the county and construction on that same pipeline was going on by my house when I found her.
So I'd say this lady's dog was probably stolen and whoever took her relocated to New Mexico and took the dog with them.
Cookies Chanel? The dog ran away. Bet on it.
We have a large population or Mex or South Americans here, and yes they do steal dogs. I always thought they sold them to Chinese restaurants. Some of our local Chinese restaurants have been caught with dogs in their freezer.
Dogs are often stolen from yards by thieves and held for a reward. And the owner will pay it the majority of the time.
Even if you suspect they stole the dog , the police won’t get involved unless you can show they stole the dog (eye witnesses, video, etc.).
And this is just one of the many benefits of owning an anti-social, stranger hating breed.
