I was listening a little bit to Dennis Prager yesterday, and his Ultimate Issues issue of the day was about when people try to comfort someone suffering by telling them "don't worry, God never gives you more than you can handle."
I just heard a little bit of the program, but his stance was these are the least comforting words ever created and this is not found in the Bible.
What are your thoughts on this saying?
You just made me realize that although what I have been going thru the last 6 years has been extremely painful and exhausting - it doesn’t begin to compare to your loss of family. I am sorry for the pain you are experiencing.
I pray God grants you peace and comfort and brings great joy and love into your life.
My best to you FRiend.
I like that sayin’!
You are absolutely right.
Thank you for summing up my thoughts so well. The first time I recall hearing that phrase I was 10 years old and my Grandpa (that I was very close to) was on his death bed. Some yahoo preacher tossed that line to me sitting in a hospital balling my eyes out. Resented it ever since.
Wow! My sincere condolences.
Sounds a great deal like the priest in “Silence “ by Endo. God’s word is true and that man can be forgiven. Peter denied Christ three times and was forgiven.
I am so sorry for your losses.
Interesting...sounds like some of the hard-headed Jews Paul encountered in Acts.
My heart goes out to you.
2011 was like that for me...My Husband committed Suicide, My beloved Dad died from Alzheimers, I lost my house and my health, and then my best friend and mentor.
Through it all, FR was there for me with prayers and helpful support.
Please accept my condolences, and know I am praying for you.
What doesnt kill you, makes you stronger
You are probably right in loathing that particular expression. Originally attributed to Neitzche(sp?), it was quoted by Conan the Barbarian.
Not exactly role models! :-)
Glad to help out. I hope you’re feeling better soon.
Take care.
Thank You...i appreciate that!
But if you choose to end your own life after such suffering, then God will condemn you.........
How about those who God condemned to dementia and ended their lives at their own hands?
The cool thing about God is that HE can never be faulted since the argument always falls back to his giving free choice to his creation..........
Everyone, Thank you for all of your kind words. Don’t know what I would do without people like you! God Bless you all!
