Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

Don’t we have one of those in the White Hut?

No. A beamish boy is one who makes you proud.

What we have in the White Hut is an embarrassment on every continent. He’s like a troll that crawled out from under a bridge and somehow managed to convince people that he was a handsome prince.

Those of us who see the reality instead of the promise know the truth.

You are of course correct. I misremembered the context and thus misapplied the word.

In my defense I merely offer that I only have the poem committed to memory up to 'frumious bandersnatch'.

Beyond that point I must cheat. Or look it up. But that's usually enough to get me by.

Unless I cross paths with a poet. ;-)

Crossing paths with a poet is not at all an unusual thing. They tend to wander a bit from any straight and narrow course, if not outright stagger as they proceed.

So crossing the path of a poet is like drawing the line through to make a dollar sign. The poet does the meandering, sinuous, and inefficient part of the design. Who knows why?

On another note, it is always of concern when one of your indoor/outdoor kitties goes out and doesn’t come back for the ‘feed me human!’ moments or to snuggle in her bed safe indoors at night.

It is now the second night...

I am again venturing to the perimeter with my kitty summoning device to pierce the darkness in search of two green (sometimes one green and one yellow) glowing eyes and a gray face with a smudge of white under the chin.

Beamish doesn’t refer to being projected like a particle beam?

Well, there’s something you don’t see every day...a full plate in a full place setting. I need to talk to Cook.

Good morning. I got home from the Cub Scouts planning meeting at 2:30 a.m. I guess I’ve been deprived of adult interaction for too long!

I can’t recall the last time I got home at 0230. It seems that’s when I wake up, these days. Not a good sign.

Adult interaction would be totally missing from my life if I didn’t have my FRiends.

It’s not even light outside, and my 5-channel TV has nothing to offer until 0500. I was hoping to end the laptop payment in July and add more TV channels but that’s not going to happen. *sigh*

And it feels as though I will have to have a breathing treatment soon. :o|

I don’t know what the temp will be today but yesterday at noon on my patio, it was 104. And my patio is shaded.

The weather prognosticator says it will be 105 at McCarran, but it’s usually about 3-5 degrees warmer here.

I don’t mind the heat as long as the humidity is in the single digits. It starts getting into the double digits and I have trouble breathing.

Of course, with as much nebulizer meds as I have now, I can make it through the monsoons and beyond for two years!

I thought of going to Walmart, but then I thought, “Why?”

There are some things I need but they can wait until tomorrow early.

Actually, it is a good place to walk when the air outside is humid, so I will go early tomorrow and walk the perimeter inside. It should be close to a mile, if not over.

It’s 80° and 21% humidity here. Bryan is outside hacking down extraneous foliage (that smacks him when
he mows around the edges of the lawn), and there is just the mildest breeze.

How did it get to 43% there? You must have moisture blowing in from the California coast or something.

Anyway, my friend, do take good care of yourself.

The moisture comes from the storms in the Pacific, and off the coast of Mexico. During the monsoon season, we can have 100 degrees with 90+ %.

This year, the monsoons are early. Last year, they didn’t start until mid-July. They will last through July and August and part of September before we begin to dry out.

Yesterday, the humidity was 59%. Ungh.

And yes, Dear Heart, I will take care of me if you promise to take care of you!
