Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

Could someone tell that donut that’s calling my name to pipe down, please?

When I am going through my challenges du jour, I want to dig a hole, crawl in and pull it in after me. Given a week or two to recover, I realize that what I experience is only a part of life, and that I should be glad I am alive to FEEL.

My biggest problem, I think, is that I allow myself to get too close to people and then I become a victim of empathy: I feel what they are feeling, and if I’m not careful, I can become terribly confused and will then have a tendency to short-circuit.

And if you tell anyone I told you that little secret, I will send Ice Pick after you!

*wink*

I was thinking of driving up to Smith’s and getting a fresh donut, as they have the best around, but, I would use too much gas for a 50 cent donut...It sure would taste good with a cup of coffee, though...

Maybe I’ll just go down to 7-11...

Here's the scientific explanation, from an avowed expert.

I have several C&H books, and that will always be my favorite comic strip! Thanks!

Every so often I get reminded of what it means to work in NYC for a City agency. I just got an email letting me know that June is LGBT Pride month.

“During this month designated Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Month, let’s celebrate the unique make-up of our great CIty - and most especially applaud the ‘inclusiveness’ of our DSNY workplaces.”

So, someone correct me if I’m wrong, but what exactly do those four groups of people have in common with each other other than they are different sexually from over 90% of the rest of us?

I don’t know why you even accept these BP prescriptions. It seems like none of them works.

There is method to my madness. If I take them and have bad results, the doctor won’t prescribe any more for me and I can go back to the herbal remedies that work.

My stress lately has elevated it, plus I ran out of Carditone and didn’t have enough money to get it when I ordered the pills on payday.

Not to mention the 2 I spent moving the car from one side of the street to the other.

Peoples who have not experienced the joys of on street parking in NYC will not understand why it takes 2 hours...

Just wait 'till it snows... ;-)

Actually, DSNY is rsponsible for plowing the streats of NYC, so they often cancel ASP when it snows because there’s nobody available to drive the brooms.

However, after it’s stopped snowing and you have that wall of plowed stuff smashed against your car it’s pretty interesting.

Last year we had so much cold and snow I didn’t have to move my car except after it had thawed.

Years ago, I had to take Prozac to prove I couldn’t take Prozac. BIG mistake. NEVER had a med affect me that way and it almost got me fired.

Ironically, a co-worker took it and he was “docile.”
