James Glassman's a good guy, but he's ankle-biting when he complains that an independent candidate has a snowball's chance in hell of getting into the presidential debates in 2016. His inspiration is a poll-gazing piece by the Wall Street Journal's Gerald Seib.
In his piece, Seib tells us that Americans would love someone to take down Wall Street. Big banks and Wall Street have too much power in Washington, we say. And we think that The economic system is stacked against the middle class, and government policies are making that worse. Then he quotes from a WSJ/NBC poll to tell us that Americans would love an independent to run for president.

The candidate who wins in ‘16 will be the one most outside the current cesspool of Washington - or who can convince voters they represent the outside.
This will tempt many independent candidates.
Yay Uniparty!
Of course, let’s not forget Bernie Sanders is also “independent”.
How many billions does it cost to buy ...ah I mean win the presidency now? Where is an independent going to get that kind of money?
Dust off Ross Perot.
The fact that the idea of an independent candidate winning the presidency is considered “rubbish” is one of the primary problems with our country.
George Washington warned us to avoid a two-party political system and we did not listen to him - to our eternal detriment.
Why post a picture of Chris Christie when talking about Jeb Bush? Oh... wait minute, I see now. Sorry!
Conservatives don’t do polls in the same percentage as liberals. It’s a touch of fear...
True. But the system the Founders gave us virtually guarantees a two party system.
I guess there weren't that many alternatives to winner-take-all single-member districts available at the time.
And the irony is that without parties our politics would have resembled what we rebelled against -- the rule of the "king's men" who had the trust of the monarch but no real party base.
There is a little hope for third party fans: Mexico, which was a one party state for a long time, then a two or three party country, is seeing a resurgence of a lot of smaller parties.
I would vote for a independent who I could give a 80% favorable rating to over a party candidate, with joy in my heart!
yep. If we end up with this loser as the Republican candidate, I will not vote in the election unless there is a good independent candidate.
“Dust off Ross Perot.”...and lose to a Clinton again. Brilliant strategy.
Yeah, I was serious.
I'd speculate it's coming from Dems who worry Hillary will be such a weak candidate she will need an Indy to siphon votes away from the R like Perot did to Bush to get hubby elected.
