Blurry lines between bikers, police clubs draw concern
Ap via Fox ^ | June 7, 2015

Police officers and outlaw biker gangs often stand on common ground. Both attract the young and adventurous who value order, discipline and brotherhood. And on weekends tens of thousands of cops routinely trade their cruisers and badges for choppers and club colors.

The bond doesn't mean a free pass for criminal motorcycle gangs, but even some within law enforcement worry that too many officers believe bikers are just misunderstood Robin Hoods. And empathy from officers who emulate or even aspire to the outlaw life can put police or the public at risk, gang experts warn.

Ooops .. perhaps spoke too soon, attributing this to FOX instead of AP ... but just the same, it is "AP via FOX."

Yep ... doesn't really let FOX off the hood. I'd be impressed if FOX pointed out how manipulative the angle of this AP story is.

FOX lost me long ago, however. I appreciate that it is there, but ... I also appreciate that an enemy inside is more dangerous than an enemy outside.

From one of the most vital books I have ever read

Amusing Ourselves to Death Quotes (showing 1-30 of 85)

“We were keeping our eye on 1984. When the year came and the prophecy didn’t, thoughtful Americans sang softly in praise of themselves. The roots of liberal democracy had held. Wherever else the terror had happened, we, at least, had not been visited by Orwellian nightmares.

But we had forgotten that alongside Orwell’s dark vision, there was another - slightly older, slightly less well known, equally chilling: Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. Contrary to common belief even among the educated, Huxley and Orwell did not prophesy the same thing. Orwell warns that we will be overcome by an externally imposed oppression. But in Huxley’s vision, no Big Brother is required to deprive people of their autonomy, maturity and history. As he saw it, people will come to love their oppression, to adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.

We used to say that HPD (Honolulu Police Department) was the biggest motorcycle club on the island and the only one allowed to legally carry guns.

“Really, Banditio’s, Cossack’s and their mini-me’s are great patriotic Americans?”

I didn’t say that but now that you mention it; how do you know they aren’t?

Yesterday was our annual big benefit ride for the local VA hospital.

There were quite a few of those who are disparaged here, as there are, every year.

Last I saw of one MC, they were huddled with Marines in dress blues, having some sort of very emotionally intense conversation.

They are very patriotic people and you’d be surprised how many of them are veterans, themselves.

They may be, but from what I’ve seen they may be neck deep In criminal activity which gives me pause. I don’t see them as motivated by a noble cause.

The supposedly law abiding riding club guys should probably steer.clear of.the motorcycle clubs.

“...I asked him “Pastor, how do we tell the difference? How do we tell the good ones from the bad?”...”

Easy: The one kicking your door in to disarm you is the bad one. The one trying to STOP him from doing so is the good one.

I think one of them would be REAL lonely...

Is realy lonely another way of saying on existent.

No doubt, just being in an MC is one thing. All MC’s(Not RC’s) from how I understand it have some baggage because they have to be authorized from the predominate club in the area.

The military sends a lot of guys home FUBAR. I saw a lot of it after Viet Nam.

It’s a pretty schizo deal all around, but johnny law has his job to do too. Can’t have civilians getting shot up in the parking lot no matter how it started.

Who are you or anyone else for that matter to say who should or should not associate with someone. That’s a might arrogant statement. Have been diagnosed with narcissism yet?

I usually agree with Bob Owens on “Bearing Arms” but I think he is way off base with this one. He needs to adjust his critical thinking glasses a bit methinks.

Obviously, Bob thinks only *some* people have the RTBA.

In Texas, why is it suddenly so shocking to find find people carrying guns?

Were they just not the “right people”?

Bod did himself and the 2nd Amendment argument no favors, here.

Now how an obviously good father who raised his son’s to be honorable patriotic Marines, can fall into these criminal’s trap of “help us out” when in fact these criminal gangers would step on you like a bug, is beyond logical comprehension.
You're right. Cops will step on you like a bug.

Trying to untangle the hash that these so-called journalists put out is quite a task.

That is what FR DOES.

Funny thing is, when we entered WV yesterday, we had a state police escort and all the potential dangerous intersections were blocked by various LEOs, for our safety/benefit.

What I did not expect were the cops whose only duty was to *salute* us as we rode by.

And they saluted with obvious, genuine emotion.

That kinda choked me up.

There are good cops, too.

I wish I’d been able to drive *and* take pictures.

They had a huge crane with an even huger flag hanging from it, with soldiers standing in perpetual salute, as well.

That was sure something.

It might be a bit arrogant, but that’s life. People are judged by the company they keep. It seems a bit naive to think anything else.

If I’m hanging around with a bank robber, and I know he’s a bank robber, and he says “let’s stop at the bank, I need to make a quick withdrawal”, I’d better be ready for whatever comes my way.

Everyone on FR is judged to be a dangerous right wing fanatic and we’re all on The List.

You good with that?

Stopped reading there to brush at something that got in my eye, and then to post my apologies for not reaching out through cyberspace to squeeze you in an affectionate hug. I know how salamanders really don't take too well to being squeezed and hugged ...!!!

GOD BLESS YOU FOR SHARING THAT. Now back to reading the rest of your post.
