The new test, known as VirScan, works by screening the blood for antibodies against any of the 206 species of viruses known to infect humans, according to a study published Thursday in the journal Science. The immune system, which churns out specific antibodies when it encounters a virus, can continue to produce those antibodies decades after an infection subsides. VirScan detects those antibodies and uses them as a window in time to create a blueprint of nearly every virus an individual has encountered. It's a dramatic alternative to existing diagnostic tools, which test only for a single suspected virus.

Okay. We picked on the common cold. Let’s see the excuse for the common flu that the boy’s can’t cure.
Not a virus: Toxoplasma gondii
Sounds harder than guessing weight at the state fair.
Given that they cannot confirm the right answer, they lose and I get the blacklight poster of LED Zeppelin on the right.
Sweet cheeks, you don't *even* want to know!
So, heres my question:
Isnt every rhinovirus (common cold) a rather unique virus? Isnt that why its so hard to cure the common cold? Because its different every time? If this test lists every virus youve had, wont it list about 60 colds that youve had in your lifetime? And do they all have names? I mean, the mumps virus is one thing, but the cold I had in the winter of 1979 was really bad but how will it be identified (named)?
...
I have a feeling all the colds will be categorized as one species of virus. I don’t think the test will be all that useful for most people.
There is already a test to see if you had chickenpox. If you test positive you should get the shingles vaccine. Shingles is nasty and you definitely want to avoid it.
Let me know when there’s an App for that.
Doesn’t the Apple Watch do this?
Nor I.
I suspect a well-meaning foreign poster without quite a firm grasp of the English language, complicated by a foreign syntax (German?)
I'm guessing "NO", by definition.
Natural biologic systems would have to be prescient...
Or be imbued by "genetic memory" of every virus in the universe.
LOL!
That’s as good of a guess as any and better than any of mine. I couldn’t catch a hook on any of it.
“What good is this if modern medicine they can’t cure the common cold?”
Sounds like just another way to skin the cat, is all.
Exactly what I was thinking.
I think the mods should delete you. You are a public menace;)
Don’t worry, I have a biohazard sweater now!
