Axiom № 2: If you are taken to the hospital, do not sign anything.
Axiom № 3: If you are taken to the hospital do not allow anyone to take your clothing, especially your shoes.
This is relevant for caregivers of adults also. I know of a couple going through this now.
He has Alzheimer’s. She was his caregiver. She had a dizzy spell, due to a temporary drop in blood pressure. Her doctor apparently had her on too high a dose of blood pressure medication. Her doctor directed her to go the the emergency room. By then, her blood pressure was back to normal, but they kept her overnight for testing.
Without his caregiver, her husband was immediately sent to a nursing home of the hospital’s choosing. She fought it, and tried to get friends to care for him for the night, but the hospital took control.
When she was released, she tried to check her husband out of the nursing home, but they had already obtained legal custody, and refused to release him. She was visiting him twice a day, and seeking to regain custody.
Her doctor notified the DMV of her drop in blood pressure, and they revoked her driver license.
Now he’s in a nursing home, with no visitors, and she’s trapped at home, with no way to run errands, except for the occasional ride from a friend. All courtesy of DCF (Department of Children and Families).

CPS and authorities love going after big families. The State pays monthly when such children get placed or adopted out.
