As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28 Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’

Verse 29 is in reference to a verse in the book of Isaiah.

Just like Hanna was barren and being taunted by her husband’s other wife for having been fruitful.

But she weeped in the temple and God heard her prayer, and she promised to give back that promise to God.

Hanna gave birth to Israel’s first prophet, and perhaps one of Israel’s greatest prophets, prophet Samuel.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Elizabeth and Zackarias served God faithfully, but it seemed God was deaf to their prayers to Elizabeth’s barrenness.

Not knowing that they ?

Would be the parents God ordained to bring the great prophet John the Baptist to introduce and prepare the way, The Messiah, Jesus Christ to the world in his first coming.
