They could easily put an automatic stop timer on the dryer that makes it stop after 5 min or 10 min or whatever time is deemed safe after which it would require a human to come check and reactivate it.

What might be safe for one breed, may not be for another. No, the best thing is to trash them and rely on a handheld appliance where the operator can be assured the dog is not getting overheated.
