“I grow everything in box gardens - excellent drainage, never floods.
(Five 4x8s and a 10x10).”

How much stuff can you grow in those beds?

I’m trying to figure out how much room I need next year. My plants are outgrowing the 4 beds I have now - more sprouted than I anticipated and I’ve thinned as much as I have the heart to do. I know, having an affinity for seedlings is silly, but.....just wait until I have chickens and goats. I’ll be even worse!

Thank you! Um, do you happen to know what a “fruiting body” is?

You are welcome, Silentgypsy.

LOL! That is a wonderful question. It is basically a mushroom - the part you can see of a fungus! It is part of its reproductive system.

The implication here is that sometimes the individual “fruiting bodies” are quite small in a smaller kind of leaf fungal infection, so one would need to use a lens in order to see them clearly.

Here is what I turned up on a quick search on ‘fungal fruiting bodies’

We have three tall boxes (raised beds.)
Even with the blended growing media we’re using, standing water has started to pool. I’ve never seen rain like this, except in Yokohama...

5 cherry tomatoes so far.

I should add we're growing poblanos, halafuegos and two high bred bells for stuffing.
Anyone on this page familiar with halafuego peppers ?

Everybody around here is really, really tired of wet, squishy ground.

I'm right there with 'em.

My brain keeps saying 'typhoon season'

Glad to hear from you. Maybe some of our rain will move your way. I’m ready for a day of sunshine. LOL

Thanks for all the good information. I’ll never be a bug detective, because I can’t hardly see them even with a magnifying glass, and it get’s worse with every passing year. LOL

I have the raised beds with wooden perimeters as well. They range ins size from 2 x 4 to 3 x 8 feet.

Right now I have a bunch of tomatoes in gallon pots awaiting transplant to 5 gallon buckets.

The drainage is great. The downside is I sometimes have to water a bit more during the dry season.

Well, in spite of the late start, you have a lot of variety to work with this year. Sounds pretty good to me.

Your choice. I like mine while they are baby size usually, but this giant winter spinach almost seems like it was born to be large. LOL

I am taking the bigger leaves and snipping or tearing them in pieces and packing in freezer bags to use in soups and other recipes this winter. Stir frying the smaller ones or adding them to a salad.

Also collecting recipes as I get a chance. It grows well, but I no longer like it canned and/or cooked like it was fixed in elementary school.

It’s very low carb and of course nutritious, but most recipes I’m finding that sound appealing have too many carbs. I must already be suffering from carb deprivation and I am barely started. LOL

Looking forward to the pics. We don’t ever water our lawn here. Not because of mandatory laws - just because we are on a well, and try to conserve. Not to mention the time and effort we would rather spend on food, tv, and computer time. LOL

Several people have had their wells go dry here in this subdivision, so we are careful with water. The lawn and flowers either grow here or they don’t.

If they don’t we don’t buy any more of that type of plant or grass.
